Go, STV! Go!
Hey Guys, I bought this earlier this year, then got the LCD selector, and finally got to setting it all up, but I'm having trouble. I have been all through this forum and I don't know what the issue is - thinking maybe I fried something on the cart or board somehow. Even without the LCD selector hooked up, I can't get the multicart to work. It says "Error on cartridge" every time. I can plug in a regular STV game and it plays fine. I am using the multi-bios and

Somehow half of my message got cut off. So....I have a few stv regular carts and they work fine. I thought it was a cart connector issue but it's not - I cleaned it with alcohol and it didn't help, and like I say, I have no problem with my other carts. I did have it working at one time to display the game name at the top, and the LCD selector would change that, but no game ever played. I did try all of the seetings, but it was already set to 2P cabinet style. I then bought new Sandisk MicroSD cards, 8GB and 16GB in case my 64GB card was the issue, but now all I get is "Error on Cartridge" when I turn it on. I am using the lastest rollup pack btw, formatted to FAT32. Any ideas?

Darksoft, Thank you for the fast reply! I'm on a lunch break and have to go, but for now I'll say this....I am using SDHC, yes, an 8GB Sandisk. And I will check that link to see if I am changing the cabinet settings correctly. I think I did but I will confirm tonight. And I removed the multicart abotu 10 times, and swapped it with a regular stv cart (the regular cart works every time) and the multicart always says error on cartridge. I'll try more tonight and let you know. Thanks for the reply !!

Are you using SDHC cards, right? SDXC are not supported. Actually the smaller the microSD, the better.
Funny Story.... embarrasingly so....I turned it on when I got home, waited...and amazing it worked perfect. It turns out I just was not patient enough. I have a few stv carts, so I was used to swapping them out and games loading right up. I didn't take into consideration the flash cart load time, and even though I did wait a little before, I'm thinking I always gave up, probably just afew seconds before the game actually loaded when I was trying originally. And for the cartridge error -- seems like user error. I didn't even remove the multicart and it worked the first time once I plugged it in. I had the jumpers set to Soukyugurentai when I got home though, and then switched to ribbon cable for the LCD selector. Everything worked flawless. Thanks for letting me know about the SDXC cards not working though - one of the cards I bought was XC, whereas the other 2 were HC. Somehow I never saw this printed anywhere, in all of my searches. In the end though, I guess it was just my impatience that got the best of me. Darksoft, you are awesome for getting back to me so quickly, especially because this thread is like 6 years old and you are still very attentive to it. You guys Rock!! Thanks for everything!!

Oh but there is one curiosity I had that I wanted to ask about - I noticed a few games had jittery screens or mangled pixelation at the main menu and character selection screen, but then the rest of the game was normal. Cotton Boomerang was one of them, some fighting game was an other, just as I was randomingly going through. Is this something to do with the way the hardware processes the game? It's ok, because the rest of the game is normal, but it is very interesting because I have a modded Saturn with Phoebe, and there are 2 games in the library that do this on that too. A great example is Thunder Force V - a shaky screen during some of the intro and character selection screen, then it is fine. Also, when your game is over then the shaky screen comes back (I think on the screen showing the high scores or something.) Is there an explanation for this phenomenon?

Not really. Never seen those glitches that you have. Can someone else confirm?

Those games work 100% fine here. My biggest guess seeing that it also happens with a regular Saturn console is that the start screens for those games don't agree somehow with something in the chain of your video signal. Are you using an Upscaler with HDMI or a traditional TV?

To test, try to give the clearest video path to your monitor/screen. If possible then test it on a sepeate setup/monitor if available.

Failing that it could be the ROM set you're using.

I'm using HD Retrovision component cables straight to a Sony Trinitron 20" TV, so I don't suspect that is the issue, but maybe my TV needs to be serviced. I will try this on another CRT I have around and see what comes of it.

It’s best not to assume anything. I don’t know what those cables are like but it’s worth trying a different set of cables and also another TV to truly isolate the issue. It seems strange it’s happening on both a Saturn console and also a ST-V.

I'm ready! thanks @Darksoft and @HighScoreSaves Team!

ST-V multi came in, but I can't seem to get it to work properly and could use some help.

I'm using the 2019-09-13 fileset. I moved that along with the other stuff (so, three folders on root: games, SOUNDS, and Documentation) to the SD-card. When I fire it up with a new jumper config, I get to the error screen, and the two lights are on. After 30-60 seconds, it goes down to one light. If I power-cycle, it goes right back to the same game error screen, but only one light stays on. So it is as if it is loaded in properly, but the game won't come up. My ST-V board has been tested with a regular cart and works fine.

Any ideas?

Yes, that is normal if you change the game. That means that you change the jumpers configuration.

Can you be more specific? Please read the instructions, if you haven't done it yet. Some games will only work in 1P or 2P mode and that is something that you need to change in the Service Menu.

I did read the documentation that was in the downloaded files, yes. Here is a video as it should be more clear.

EDIT: Purikura Daisakusen worked, so I though I had gotten it working, but when I flip back to Terra Diver, it does the same problem again (both should be 2P). Is the 2019-09-13 fileset good? I tried ~3 other games and none of them worked.

Tried reflashing the SD card, but no luck. Tried another SD card, no luck.

EDIT 2: About 30% of games work so far, but the other 70% don't. It is really weird. Both Cotton games, Choro-Q, Radiant Silvergun, and Purikura worked. Pretty much everything else I've tried hasn't.

Oh very good. That video is great.

First thing I'd do is insert / remove the cart 4-5 times to make sure no dirt is in the middle.
Can you try on another STV mobo? If you can't, I'd recommend doing a rework of the solder on the 2 SH2 processors. Those tend to be the root of many issues.

Can somebody identify the SH2s for us? We’ll take a look at this later today. ✌️

Yep, thanks Darksoft. Ajax is my homie locally and has an ST-V and also just got a multi too, so we will definitely be able to do some testing. Will report back!
