Hello everyone, I know getting 100 ¥ coins can be tricky, but I figured I’d ask. Does anyone have a way I could get 20-30 of these bad boys in the US? Local banks only do bills 😔.

Thanks!

Decided to pay a premium on eBay. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ got 20 @ $3.50 each 🥹

I been trying for the past 6 months and haven't found a solution. Pretty much gave up and I'm going to be using Japanese game center coins. You can buy like over 100 off buyee for like $25.

Game center tokens seems like a nice solution.

I have some 100 Yen coins for my tate cab but yeah, finding them in the US is hard. And like OP said, banks don't do coins, only bills. I got lucky randomly on eBay one time and caught a listing for ~40 100JPY coins.

My other cabs I just tweaked the coin slots to take US nickels, they're almost identical to a 50yen just a little thicker. But tokens would be way cooler I think...

Might not help the OP but If you are in an airport that handles international travel (e.g. LAX) the currency conversion booth(s) usually have coins from inbound travelers. I built most of my 100¥ set this way.
Oooo maybe I’ll try this. I’m in salt lake and we have an international airport.

Also thanks for all the tips on other coins, yall! As a backup, I have started collecting tokens for now-defunct arcades. I thought that might be fun as an alternative 😃

I've heard good things about this, if you're cool with it accepting literally any coin: http://www.arcadeplastics.com/any-coin-mech

Not really a fan of modding a ¥100 mech to do other coins but I'm kind of a purist in that regard as I use the real coins in all my cabs and would be bummed to receive a mech that was marked ¥100 but accepted something different. It's sort of satisfying to have the cab fully functional even to the point of rejecting the wrong coins, and if you're going to mod the mech to take something different might as well install something that accepts everything with no hassle

Good suggestions. I'll need 15 of these tho.

Yeah 20 or 70 won't be enough unfortunately. I have 15 machines and probably like 400+ game tokens. Those tokens only cost $80 after shipping from Japan so I rather mod my coin mechs than spend $70+ on 20 100¥. I have 15 machines
Yeah I’m just populating two machines here, haha

Just came across this post on FB. Apparently MVS coins with 100¥ stamps? Off Ali express...Interesting.

Can you do a write up? I have those coins, Namco, St. Tropez and even SEGA coins but I can't get all my mechs to accept them.

You should only really need to remove the magnet (which is a "unplug and play" thing).. then the acceptor should work with 100YEN and with tokens of the same dimensions as 100YEN (which I would always recommend).. weight doesn't need to be exactly the same, in my case it isn't, but I didn't have to tune up anything else in the mech.

It's really totally reversible and no risk to mess up anything
