What's new
Following and Building along with this thread. Always wanted a solid mini mame PC setup I could chuck in a cab. Thanks for doing this!

What is the best software solution right now for converting keyboard input to x input? I'm using jvs-pac2 in a Lindbergh cab and the PC will primarily be for Windows games, many of which require x-input. Kinda like joy2key but in reverse.

Using the same PC as OP, I was able to install the CRT Emu Driver. When I run VMMaker, it says it cannot see any compatible devices...... (On board HD 7480D)

I verified the driver is installed (Calamity), but it only sees \\.\DISPLAY1
No compatible driver found

Kind of stuck here since I cannot seem to get a proper 15k out signal into my Jammasd V3

Any suggestions?

You downloaded the wrong CRT Emu driver. Download the other version.

I actually had the right one, for whatever reason, a third restart got it to see the onboard card. Seems to be working ok now! Now onto getting the thumb drive setup thing going. TY again for documenting this for everyone!

Ok so I want to do an arcade only build for my blast city here's where I'm at
  1. bought dell optiplex w/i3 and low profile hs5450 card
  2. installed /configured crt emu and atom 15. Installing atom 15 was a snap with gpu z and ati winflash 2.6.7
  3. sound was as simple as buying a stereo to rca jack adapter. However I went through the steps of installing a virtual audio cable in case I go with a hyperspin build
  4. Controls: according to this LINK brook fighting boards have less than 1 ms input latency so i went with a zero pi fighting board and pb jamma finger board (slightly less than a jpac and faster response)
So here's my problem the fighting board handles the joystick and button inputs but not the coin mech, service switch etc... I remember previously when I had a jpac the coin mech and service and test switch were all mapped to keys from the keyboard. Pressing the service switch was essentially like pressing f2. How can I map these switches without modifying my cabinet. Is jpac the only way?

No.

Plug a keyboard in into your MAME box. Boot up. Launch a game. Once in the game, hit TAB on the keyboard. Navigate to the COIN1 in I think General Controls? I don't remember the right sub-menu offhand. But should make sense once you hit TAB and you see the list. Definitely not "This Game" menu. Hit ENTER. Flip the coin switch behind the Blast coin door.

Should be mapped now to coin.

You could Install autohotkey and set a custom button combination to trigger insert coin.

You can do the same thing in MAME exactly in the way I described previously. However, instead of programming the function by flipping the coindrop switch, press whatever button combination you want. I always use PxSTART + any of the JAMMA buttons. I do the same thing for RESET, ESCAPE, PAUSE, TEST, SERVICE; PxSTART + B1, or B2, or .....

You can also program the function to more than one button or button combinations. Basically, after initial programming, Press ENTER in the menu again and program in a second command.

WOW!!! I swear that wasn't working before. :dead:

I am using @Wildpumpk1n tox box build which uses hyperspin unfortunately. I'm trying to create my own attract mode theme well see how that goes

If you going all in with additional arcade emulators like supermodel, m2, teknoparrot, demul then autohotkey can be used to set key combinations like "hold start for 5 seconds and press p1 button1 for the nominated credit button" or "hold start for 5 seconds and press p1 b1,b2,b3 for the nominated escape button". It works well IMHO.

If only using mame is so much easier to just set the desired key combinations from the mame key configuration for the credit and escape actions.

@RealMFnG is this a way to get Carnevil to run? If so, which guns would work with that? Also, does it makes sense to purchase a Ultimarc Arcade VGA 3000 for this use, or are those basically obsolete now?

I've been holding out to buy a full Carnevil setup for quite some years now, but I guess that'll never happen...

Arcade VGA isn't obsolete, it is just academic now with Calamity's work with CRT Emu. CRT Emu allows use with any Radeon-based card. But to if you are running just MAME, you are best off economically using a HD5350 series card. Don't use a card lower than a HD5000 series because there is complicated cable switching you have to perform to get setup done. Given CRT Emu, you can spend as little as $8 for a graphics card with 15khz output. Compared to Arcade VGA which costs $100. The other advantage of CRT Emu is there are emulators that require graphics acceleration. In those instances, you can run Model 2 emulators and such on a beefier Radeon card.

As for a lightgun setup, it is one of my big projects. I have all the components, just way too many projects ahead of it. In any case, Carvevil isn't out of reach. I think the most accessible option right now is to use the Sinden Lightguns.

I just freed up an old setup.
fx8350
asus mobo
32gb ddr3 1600
rx460

thinking about using this for my astro city in Tate mode. I also have a blast city that I could throw it in. Astro has a stereo amp in it and a line level converter. Thinking about going jpac however in the blast I could put a Brook Zero use the vga skip the jpac and get another cheap amp and wire it in. Decisions , decisions

wow, that's a hell of a setup especially the ram for a 15khz setup :o

I personally found the jpac the easiest way as there's no need for any mods or anything on the cp side, I just plug in and away I go - granted I needed to make a little kick harness from the jpac to the astro
