Blast City PSU power filter cap

Did you try to heat up one leg of the filter cap with your soldering iron and then using your de soldering gun as a vacuum cleaner while your iron is on the leg and solder is flowing? I call it dual wielding

Haha. I haven’t tried dual wielding yet. I also don’t have a helping hands clamp. Feel like that’s probably necessary but tell me if i’m wrong

Usually no need for clamps when it’s a big PCB, but I have personally never worked on a Blast PSU so I could be wrong. As long as the PCB is stable, give dual wielding a go

might be a little big. id go with the 1.2, a 1, and a .8. too mig a nozzle is just as un-fun to work with as one thats too small

Nothing wrong with 1.6. That's what I use most often. I wouldn't use it to clear chips, but for caps, no problem.

Man that 1.6mm nozzle made life a breeze. It popped right out. Is the orange-ish fluid around the lead terminal electrolytic fluid or just flux? Best pic i could get

@imbord3rlin3 still thankful for your suggestion to buy multiple nozzles because you are right… having the right tool is like 90% of the job.

Probably flux. Those big filter caps rarely leak or if they do they’re the last on the board to do so.

Haha oh yeah, I meant for the PCB itself. But yeah I concur with kikaso, those things rarely leak.
