Newcomer looking for advice on SF3 setup

You need the cable going from the supergun out?

Most likely that pvm takes bnc cables.

If you can find a 8 pin to bnc that is pry the cable you need.

I use scart into a retrotink so I don't have one I can recommend.

There's also a hdmi mod for these boards that fits the case if you ended up wanting to get it modded later by a pro.

Retro access is under hard times right now so the website is limited but if you email him he would pry make it if he has the components on hand.

@DorianGray If you are going into the PVM you can get this: https://rgbslab.com/products/8-pin-mini-din-to-scart-adapter

Then get this and feed it into your PVM: https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk...s/scart-adapters/sony-pvm-scart-converter-bnc

That's my workflow, however the HD15 flow you listed above would work the same.

It's worth investigating which upscaler you are planning on and getting and getting the cables that works best with it -- then you've got both bases covered!

Going to great once you get up and running, just a couple of cables away :)

If the only thing you are going to play is CPS3 then the OSSC is very inexpensive solution for upscaling to a modern display. If you will ever expand your need for a scaler, then the options open up and the prices go up.

It looks like my first post was 5.11.24, exactly a year to the day later I'm posting the first update of my powered up CPS3! Thanks again for all of the advice and help along the way everyone.

I do have one problem though. My button 6 (HK) doesn't work for P1 or P2. I did a bit of research and it looks like this problem pops up now and then. More often than not posters have said that button 6 is stuck in the "on" position, that is not the case here. My supergun registers the button being pressed but the test screen does not (see pics). Any advice on how to solve this?

so i hear alot of issues on the actual cps3 board that a trace could be broken somewhere or the chip that processes the inputs is bad. and there is no fix for this.

i am no pro but im just putting that warning out there, do u have a 2nd way to test the board?

The tink4k is the end all be all tool for syncing random things to a modern display including rotate and adjustable sync.
The ce lacks many of the features needed only really on arcade boards.
For less temperamental boards the basic ossc is perfect and I routinely pack one over to friends, since all they have is HDMI.

I take it the chip is custom?

What would a 2nd way to test the board look like? What would I need/how would I do it?

Check that the signal is reaching your CPS3 first. If you have a multimeter, set it to DC voltage. Place the positive probe inside Player 1 Button 6 (Pin 15) of the CPS3 kickharness connector and the negative probe inside one of the Ground pins on the kickharness connector. Tap Player 1 Button 6 on the controller a few times and see if the voltage changes on the meter when you do so.

If the meter doesn't respond, then either the HAS isn't conveying the button signal properly, or there's a problem with your harness wiring between the HAS and the CPS3. If the meter does respond then you have a problem on the CPS3 board itself. A board tech would want to start tracing the connection from the kick harness connector on the CPS3 board to its destination. If the problem is with the CPS3, hopefully there's just a broken circuit somewhere that a solder reflow would fix.

Do you connect the SF3 directly to the supergun? If so, then something's going on with the SF3. However, if you use a JAMMA extension harness with the kick harness connected to the extension (not the supergun's kick harness output), you must enable the 6 button JAMMA output in the supergun. By default, this output is disabled.

Thank you for the detailed troubleshooting guide. After I read this I disconnected the HAS Jamma extension (I should've mentioned this in my earlier post) and plugged the supergun directly into the CPS3 and button 6 worked so that ruled out board issues and narrowed down the problem.

This solved the problem, now button 6 is working with the JAMMA extension thanks RGB!

Now that I have everything up and running I want to post the final project totals (supplies and cost) for anyone who wants to take the path of piecing everything together instead of buying a turnkey setup. As someone who had no prior experience or equipment, there were a lot of small pieces and parts that I didn't realize I needed until I needed that part to move forward. I would highly recommend all of the Arcade Projects based products/sellers seen in the diagram. Time to play!

so glad to hear you resolved this and there is another working cps3 out there! now buy one of the remaining ultra simm setups and get that figured out =P]

actually looks like u already got them lol sweet!
