OK so I got an A board that was shorting and a boot reset. I was looking all over and of course the last thing I check was the connectors, two really badly bent pins. So after an hour of gently straightening them out, I get the below. A few questions.

1. Is there a source for new connectors so I can replace this one?
2. The issues shown are likely the connector right?
3. If connectors are not easily available, any tips for this one connector? The middle pin after straightening is just a little bit shorter, so that could be the problem.

If you can't find the connector, it's probably easy enough to get the individual pins, you'd just have to pop one of the straight ones out and measure both length and width. I'm sure someone has noted down what they are, but I don't know them off-hand.

You can just change out the pins? Will I have to desolder the connector first? Do they just slip out or something?

OK, that sounds easy enough, so... once I pull one out and measure it, how the hell do I find them online?

I have a number of parts cps2 A boards if you really need a connector. Looking at your picture I think both can just be fixed with fine tip needle noise pliers. For the one on the left you should just be able to squeeze the pin in the pliers to straighten it.

If the pin is that easy to replace I'll go for that. I've messed with it with pliers for over an hour. The middle one just isn't as tall anymore, leading to it not making a good connection I think. After all, isn't the screen shots indicative of that?

Well crap, now I need to grab another B board and test to verify the game isn't faulty in some way..

It sure seems indicative of some sort of fault. But is it a bad A board, an issue with the connection, and issue with the B board? Beats me!

I think most things have been covered pretty well. I have straightened 100s of those pins without issue and replaced a few. I don't tend to replace them as they usually bend back fine.
The actual connector is a 96 pin DIN 41612 (cant remember if that is the male on the A board or female on the b board). You can typically get them from digikey but they usually have ends that are a little different and you have to try and work out if it is going to work in your situation.

Maybe a stupid suggestion as I can't really judge from the pic, but can't you just heat the solder up and pull it a bit up? If it's really only missing a mm or 2, you could simply just do that (for now anyways).

OK, so the game works in my other motherboard and all games display the same issue in this one. I guess it is likely the pin, but of course, the pin could be fine and it could be something else wrong too, but at least the problem is narrowed down to this particular A board. I will attempt a pin swap or replacement, one day....

Here's the best I got it after fiddling with it another 15 minutes.

After saying fuck it, let's pull on that little bugger like a teen boy who just discovered Pornhub, 15min later:

True, I would want to get it replaced regardless though :D

This. I think that pin is too far gone and even if it works on one game it may not make contact on another one

It’s also going to be very fragile because it’s been bent around and when these pins snap in the female side connector - not a fun time
