A Freeware Taito TypeX Multigame

Currently running into the failure setting JVS address error. I think I'm missing the actual JVS board but I'm not sure what to get, this is my first ever arcade build and I've mostly been doing research on google/looking at other people's threads here.

Here's a photo of my TTX board and some attachments. Pardon the crazy looking open case mount; this is just a test bench I use at work when building computers to make it easier to add or remove parts before mounting things in an actual case:

I know in some of the photos it looks like maybe the jamma card is hooked into the wrong comm port; I've tried it in the other comm port (between the pci slots) too and still see the same error. This is the taito jamma that normally comes with a typeX, I believe

I have what I think is the sega I/O board. I was under the impression this was the "JVS" component from looking at others' builds, but I assume I'm mistaken. I tried hooking it to the jamma board with the USB cable as shown, and tried with the jamma board plugged into different comm ports, but I still see this same error.

Sorry if this is the wrong thread or if it should've been a new thread entirely, I can go make my own if needed, just seemed like people frequent this thread for TTX1 stuff in general! I ended up with all these parts separately and I even went through the vbios flash for the card on my own; I think this is probably the last part before I can get this thing actually booting to the OS (well, I probably still need to figure out input too... which I assume kind of goes along with the JVS board)
I/O needs 5v power; it won't get power through usb. You can either use the jamma edge connector or the little CN header on the opposite edge (I believe... definitely verify that claim). 99% of the time you'll just use the jamma edge since you need a jamma harness anyway.

Thank you for the speedy reply! I'll wait for some verification before jumping forward with anything, but this is definitely a part I wondered about, so I have some new questions.

First: The CN connector you're talking about is the big 14-pin one on the left side in my photo, right?

Second: the edge connector on the jamma board is the 6-pin that's arranged into two rows of 3 pins, right?

Finally: Is this [link] the correct kind of harness? I'm guessing I'll need a tool for crimping the wire ends too so they actually hook onto the jamma edge connector

oh, and rtw responded while I was writing my reply. Y'all are mega fast! Thank you a ton!

The original power to this JVS IO came through CN9. 5V and 12V. I suspect 5V is all you need.

You can pinout the 5Vand 12V from the appropriate JAMMA connector and onto the other headers.

This IO might also needs spoofing of the coin meter so that you will be allowed to insert coins. Insert a 100 ohm resistor from coin meter pin to 5V.

Oh, CN9, that's the small 2pin, right? So I only need a single wire from one of the pins on the jamma 6-pin edge connector running to the 5v CN9 pin to actually power the board? Is that correct?

Or, it makes more sense to just get the kick harness, and connect a wire from the jamma 5v to the 5v pins on the 14pin CN connector (CN4 I think? The prints on the board are a little vague...)

CN9 is the big square footprint with 4 pins. There is no connector mounted in your pictures.

As you said, just get a JAMMA harness and power it with that since you will need to add some joysticks.

Is there a particular kick harness model I should be looking for? I linked one earlier but I'm not certain if I need that specific one (or if it's even correct) and the shipping rate on it is kind of expensive, so I'm wondering if I should shop around a bit

Not kick harness JAMMA harness.

If you do not have a JAMMA harness or a JAMMA setup you will need a supergun like this to play the games:

If you just want to verify your setup just get your JVS IO powered with 5V and see if the ttx boots up.

I regret mentioning the CN connector for power because it's unnecessary for most applications. Just get a jamma harness and follow the pinout to supply 5v to it. You can grab unused 5v and Ground wires from your ATX power supply. One final note is that if you plan to play fighting games that use Button 6, you will need Pin 4 and 8 of CN3 as mentioned here: https://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/w/JVS#Sega_838-13683-93

Buy a jamma harness here: https://twistedquarter.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=177_178&products_id=5

@SnakeGrunger sells one (TD-IO is called) of the best tool you need if you're looking for something good (i have a chinesse copy of the capcom one and is working great for my needs for TTX1 setup and i also have a taito one , but the taito doesnt look how i want and need colours adjustments , looks little bit dimmed) @pico

Pretty sure the TTX uses 4 buttons max... i wouldn't worry at all beyond the jamma harness...

Thank you so much!! (Well, thanks everyone for the input, and thanks for being patient with someone totally new to this)

I'll go ahead and get this piece; I knew I was missing something but I wasn't certain what I needed exactly!

I'll report back in here when it arrives and probably with further questions since I don't want to fry anything when hooking this up.

Should I start a new thread for my build, btw? I don't want to flood this thread with my own curiosities if the community does not feel it is helpful to have general newbie TTX build experiences compiled in this thread...

Please start a new thread with your build details and post the link here and we will follow :)

Hey,

would love to update to the newest multi on my X2 Board, but i can't see the doenload link on page one.
Where can I find it?

This multi is for the original TTX hardware not the TTX2.
