An improved JVS-PAC (JVS-PAC 2)

Nah, it's a WIP on my bench. If I manage to get 2+ 360 controllers, it will be announced and released right away. xinput is a terrible hack with the sole purpose of making money for microsoft, technically a normal HID device would have the same performance. But I'm on it (on and off :)).
While the 2p version would be most benificial, the 1p xbox 360 update would already be very very useful for me as well. I just imported a bunch of X360 Cave shmups which I want to play on my Naomi universal cab (with the vga adapter).

Is it a possibility to release it (as an beta) for now? I can understand that you only want to release something when it is complete, but it seems that multiple people are waiting with anticipation for the xbox 360 support 🙂

Also, looking forward for updates about the joystick support, since the device became "mostly useless" since most of the newer systems/games doesn't support keybord input at all.

I would also suggest to consider opening up the source code, so maybe "we" could try to contribute in improving it with the new features.

Cheers.

I was able to find a board on aliexpress that does the job, it is now out of stock but I was able to snatch a couple. I didn’t notice any lag during gameplay and I’ve tried it with my Grigio with several games. I am still planning to get a JVS-PAC2 when it comes back in stock but this is a nice temporary solution.

Some progress, got 2 x 360 xinput controllers working. Works fine in windows, but still some trickery needed for Linux, you may have to nudge linux to bind the xpad driver. I'll do a release once this part is sorted, last night I got the 'ID' part working, so player 1 is controller 1 consistently.

How do you want analog channels mapped? Typical IO boards have 8 channels, but what really matters is what kind of you have and which game systems you target. One 360 controller has 6 analog channels. I presume 98% of users will only use this for digital switches, but would be nice to have something as analog has been an outstanding feature for as long as I can remember :D

Would it be possible to map the analog channels as analog steering, gas and brake pedals for driving games?

Sounds great, good job!! :) As you are mentioning Windows and Linux, are you also looking into the Xbox 360? That's what I would love to use it for.

The device turned out a bit like an oddball composite thing, so even if the XSM3 crypto/auth stuff is now kind of open, I'm not sure how a 360 would look at the device. If I had a 360 console I would try just for fun.

Still waiting for the shipping update. Can you tell me an estimate?
Not yet unfortunately, but on it..

When you say Linux will this work on Pi setups too I still have a spare JVS-PAC 2.
Yup, should be ok - but you will need one line in a startup script (or somewhere else) to tell the xpad driver that it should regard the device as xinput. I'll provide a drop-in thing for mister along with the firmware update to make this easy.

Bit of progress & fixed a few bugs
- exfat can now be used on sdcards for ini storage
- 4 shift modes, mister full / mister core selection, mame full, and mame esc, and option of no shift keys
- shift options to issue keys work also when mode is in gamepad mode, so you can adjust volume up/down, access mister core menu and the like.
- 2 player and racing presets for analog implemented, but you may need the 'custom' analog profile and map up your cabs specific analog channels to xinput

Hope to have a (beta) release this week, and also trying to sneak in rotary support (trackballs/spinners -> mouse), so I can finally play marble madness on my cab

This may be the too late release, but should not be too little :D . Tested out analog yesterday with a beat up virtua striker 4 (?) panel, only have analog 1 stick but seems to work ok. When saving config to an SD card, the INI file writes the template for the 'custom' analog profile where you can assign channels 1-8 however you like, also across the gamepads:

[analog]
profile=custom
analog0=left_thumb_y
analog0invert=true
analog0gamepad=1
analog1=left_thumb_x
analog1invert=false
analog1gamepad=2
etc..

For rotary, there are 4 profiles, 1 spinner, 1 trackball, 2 spinners and 2 trackballs - this maps to two mice. When in rotary mode, butttons 1&2 map to mouse button left&right.

For normal switches, is this the way for most users?

edit: made it configurable by editing .ini file on sd card.

You mentioned in another thread some of your stuff was having trouble with the TD-IO and exa IO. Any updates or clarifications on whether the JVS Pac2 was/is one of those items.

Should be OK :D, this release will have JVS DASH support.. AFAIK, it's only the jammafier and TDIO that doesn't play nice, but this will be resolved in next revision. If I run it unconstrained at 3mbit, update rate is close to 4kHz, but not sure what the utility of that is as USB max out at 1000Hz.
