Assistance with CPS3 mobo with no sound

@TheCrow I still have the old PPU and it's a shame, I have another board with a dead PPU. would I be able to drive the sound DAC with a separate crystal? Like put it in the same path as ppu pin 91?

Depends what else uses that 42.9545mhz clock signal if that was defective would the board even function? the clock from the PPU is a derivative of that main clock, so is the 42 mhz clock going in and the actual 14 mhz clock coming out?
I haven't looked into it too much more as fortunately I don't have this problem but perhaps you could fit an external counter to the 42 mhz oscillator output and derive that 14 mhz clock externally (from the PPU) and then feed that into the DAC clock circuit. I dunno just spit balling.

I am thinking the same thing but using a 14.318mhz and effectively put it in the path of pin 91 to replace it as the dac clock. Do you think that's doable?

Nevermind guys I spoke to furtekk he said we would need a cpld to do it. To grab the original clock and divide it as the PPU originally did without loosing sync of the data stream.
