Baby's First Candy Cab - OK Baby Restoration

If it helps.
I bought it here:

Way ahead of you. Already ordered from there and am reordering another soon.

The 65w meanwell is enough for System12 / CPS2 and it fits on that wood slab these cabs came with. Naomi… I imagine it needs something stronger.

and correction: I got it from Mouser
https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Triad-Magnetics/N-77U?qs=%2BfhPKvh1fqOdHCP2zKa3ZQ==

Interesting, would that model work with the QP-150-3A? I may pick that one up now.

My PSU isn’t on the iso. I used terminal blocks to split the AC between the PSU and the iso. The ISO is for the sake of the crt chassis. I’m still not an electrician so if I’m mistaken then uhhh 😵‍💫

That PSU you linked is fine and way better for Naomi. You can crimp yourself some JST VL cables. Lots of amperage on the respective lines.

Won't be trisync but a WG K7400 should work on that tube and yoke. Much better chassis and won't need an isolation transformer.

I’d be open to that. Long term I’d love to put a nanao in there but I don’t know if it would work with the tube. I’m trying to source a chassis anyway and not having the isolation transformer would be way cleaner.

The Chinese chassis are roughly 60 shipped from Aliexpress. But 40 bucks for the replacement iso and now it’s 100 bucks to get the Ok baby monitor running.

I’ve added more photos for reference. Unfortunately the uploader un-rotates the photos so apologies for that.

If you can get your hands on a WG then go for it. that sounds like a no brainer.

It's really awesome to read this thread and see all your progress. It was a pleasure meeting both of you thomas + Papapishu and I really appreciate you taking these cabs off my hands. Thank you @trashedcabs and others in the thread for your help with the restorations! If you let me, some day I will come by and be reunited with my foster babies :)

It was really nice to meet you and get my baby. It's actually at the painting step right now. I'm gonna update it soon although I'm on the hunt for a local chassis right now.

If you're ever in Astoria just give me a ring.

I've not updated this in a minute in part because I shattered my foot in august but in the meantime I have:

Entirely repainted the cabinet in vinyl dye,
Clear coated it,
Installed the vinyl, screwed up the control panel, had another copy sent, redid it properly,
Started wiring everything, which is where I am at now.

I will update the thread with pictures in the future, but I'm getting analysis paralysis for if I want to try to get a welles gardner or better as discussed upthread, or to go forward with the Isolation Transformer and the Chinese tube I have already. One thing I need to figure out is if an ISO transformer has a set direction and which direction the transformer of the OK Baby goes in, I believe I have that documented photographically but I'd need to triple check.

I’m here for all of this. So keep the updates coming. Also so sorry to hear about your foot, brother!

Hi, I was wondering if anybody has a cap kit/list for the Yatta/Wei ya 988 chassis? I have a bit of rollover on the top of my screen and I need to replace some capacitors

I may do that! The bottom part and electrical parts are a mess right now. A friend of mine who also got a baby actually made an outlet for the electronics.

Hello fellow OK Baby owner! I have an OK Baby in line for refurbishment and I'm hunting for parts I need. I too have a wrecked power box similar to yours. I got very excited when I saw your solution!

Are these potentially for sale from your friend? Or share the 3d printer design file and I could have a print done locally?

Thank you, and please let me know.

Been a minute since I updated this thread, but I am still working on it. I had to redo the entire power supply board because it had gotten kinda disgusting and too small. Here's what I'm working with right now after some advice from Monitor help as well as a useful MeanWell power supply mount that was 3D printable from another member on here. The Iso Transformer is going to be connected via WAGOs.

I still need to figure out exactly what kinda glass fuse the OK Baby takes, does anyone happen to know offhand? I also want to add a power switch to the board or mount it on the inside of the Control Panel.

Originally something that threw me off was that the back off the monitor had a plug on it that plugged into a surface mounted outlet on the old board, despite needing an isolation transformer. This confused me, because wouldn't plugging a monitor that NEEDS an iso transformer be a bad idea? Then I looked at the end of the plug and realized that it had been electrical taped to the end of wire connecting the monitor.

Trying to decide how best to deal with that. I'm half tempted to convert it into a deutsch connector or a Molex to make servicing the monitor easier, but make it so that it does not accidentally get plugged directly into the wall. Also does anyone have a good board-mountable design for a power switch they like?

Was talking to another person who got an OK Baby in the same batch about installing a rocker switch and he told me there already was one in there. I had not followed the wiring and missed it somehow. It's UNDER the cabinet. So that simplifies things a lot. That's probably not stock but if you end up with a Baby that may be what you're looking for.

Yeah that switch is factory on all OK Baby cabinets and the OK Jumbo. There are 3 power switches: one on the back, one on the test/service panel, and one underneath. Personally I removed the underside one to simplify the wiring--the crimp job on all the power wiring was SUPER sketchy and had exposed conductors on the double crimps.

I kept that power switch and removed the one on the back.

That way I don’t have to wrap around the machine to power it off. Laziness wins a lot around here.

Was the issue the crimps or the switch itself? It would be the easiest one for me personally, just to the right of the board the way I'm wiring it.

OK, so something I actually need help with is how best to plan the fuse. A friend sent me a printed .stl that's upgrades the back pnnel of the old Baby wiring to the wall with a NEMA plug, an outlet, and a keystone jack for easy Ethernet access. I decided I didn't like any of the panel mount fuse holders I could find online so I went with a Schurter power entry module and extended the hole already in there. But I'm unsure if I should abandon this or not because the fuse holder has space for two 5x20 fuses and I'm unsure how best to handle two fuses being in there.

Even if I abandon that and go with a standard NEMA plug and panel mounted fuse holder, I still could use some help on what amp of fuse to go with for this specific cabinet, I know not to exceed 10A, a friend who works on cabinets recommended fast blow, but other than that I still need to decide how best to approach either situation. Any help on this would be appreciated.

As an update, here's the current, not final WIP board layout. Need to double check the wiring on the EMI filter though. The thing screwed to the end of the ISO transformer is just a housing for WAGO nuts which I'm not married to. Was thinking about maybe using a Deutsch Connector for the monitor eventually so it does not accidentally get plugged in.

Heads up that ISO from the Ok baby gave me this wavy pattern and otherwise couldn't fill the monitor no matter the pot settings. Here's an old vid when I was sharing with a friend:

For the fuse discussion: I didn't install an extra fuse by the AC outlet. My rationale is there's a fuse on the Meanwell and a fuse on the universal chassis
