Hey everyone!

I’ve recently been trying to connect my PS3 to my blast city. I run my ps3 at 480p 4:3 (modded pal ps3 to be set to NTSC) and I run a hdmi to vga into my extron rgb 160xi that then connects to my blast city via the vga port. I’m running it at 31khz but this is what the screen looks like.

Running a jamma board at 15khz works fine but as soon as I try the vga port at 31khz the screen is all scrambled.

Any tips on how to fix this?

I don’t own a 2930, but AFAIK it has a jumper you have to manually change to switch frequency. Did you do that? Image definitely looks like its out of sync.

Hmm that looks ok. Do you have any 31khz board to discard an issue with your setup?

Unfortunately I don’t 😔, only got a cps2 mvc board that runs perfectly when I put the cab at 15khz.

In that case I don’t know, sorry. I heard a friend had an issue where 15khz worked but 31 wouldn’t. Could be that 🤷‍♂️

While someone else sees this, it’s worth asking ChatGPT. I’ve been recently using it to diagnose arcade issues and it sometimes helps.

Haha chatGPT has me running around in circles, I’ll keep researching and see if I can find out why this is acting up like this. Thanks!

I have same chassis. Do you have a laptop or pc you can try.if you do FYI I had to set refresh to 59hz to get pc to work. Might also try taking your extron out of the equation. I know in my cases I have just used a simple cheap hdmi to vga with no issues. Also I recommend replacing your original remote board to pxlmod replica as it did wonders for me when i switched.

Heya I’ve tried with a laptop at 59hz still scrambled. Yeah I think I’ll also cop a replacement remote board and see if that helps, Thank you!!

I personally don't think this is the issue.

Try tweaking the H Hold pot, labeled H.H 30

I would do this before anything first,

Where abouts in Sydney are you? If you're close enough, I can lend you a 31khz game board (naomi or tatsunoko vs capcom)

edit: i'll have a look and see if I've got a spare 2930 remote board, I know i have a couple of blast things

I’ll try and adjust the HH30 pot in the meantime, ill shoot u a PM

Adjusting the HHold 30 pot, at some point the lines stop moving and are stable but it’s still a scrambled image, then after a bit they start scrolling again (idk if this makes sense 🤣)

That's normal behavior. The H-hold setting adjusts the frequency in which the sync processor IC in the monitor "locks on" to the sync signal being given. When it stops scrolling, it's locked on.

IMO you need to try a known good, generic 31khz signal from something like a Naomi, Chihiro etc. If that works, your monitor is fine and you need to look at the video output from your PS3. It may not be at the right resolution despite saying it is, or something in your chain is interfering with it.

Hey there! I got a Sega Naomi recently and at 15khz is fine, but when I try 31khz it still looks scrambled like this

If you take the bezel off you’ll see some jst connectors. Remove the one with RGB sync and ground. That’s for 15 kHz and distorts the image if it plugged in when trying to run 31khz

Unfortunately still same issue, scrambled 😔. Thanks for the help tho! Really appreciate it
