Hi !

I’ve adapted Eric Helgeson’s BlueSCSI board to snap directly onto the back of a CPS3 mainboard - no ribbon cable needed.

This fully replaces the original CD-ROM reader and can be used to flash games, boot games, etc., just like the original drive. The SD card stores the ISO images, and there is no complex configuration.

Here’s the quick rundown:
  • Why this mod ?
    • Cleaner install: custom shape matches the CPS3 PCB, so it clips right on.
    • Better reliability: eliminates loose cables.
  • BlueSCSI firmware compatible: microSD-based “drives” and firmware updates via USB-C.
    • No need for jumper configuration
  • Slim enough to go within plexi cases, it's lower than the SIMMS memories.
  • It's available ! BlueSCSI are quite complicated to get at a reasonable price, at least in Europe.

I already made some boards for French arcade forums but I though it may interest other communities as well !
Price was 60€ with SD card included. Contact me in PM if interested.

Great project, I shared similar idea with @hatmoose couple of months ago but he never listened to me :). You did it so its your idea and your project. Great accomplishment.
This is a totally amazing looking project! Sorry I wasn't able to help you, but this is way cooler than anything I would have come up with. If you're looking for such a thing I'd buy one like this.

Probably in for one.
Does anyone know if it interferes with the metal shells?
Can't be sure as I don't own one, but believe me, it's quite small and do go much out of the board original size.
Are you able to mesure the space left in the box ?

I added a connector receptacle so you can see how much is out. I would say than 4mm is enough, 5mm to be safe (you can add insulation this way).

As you can see, there is not much out of the CPS3 board.

I would help but mine is out of the case, is a nocd and I need to finish my hdmi mod now that I have the updated selector I am motivated again.

Plus that isnt the board I would use this for, also curious if it fits the hursit cases.
I pieced together a cheaper jamma cd build for *mostly* a dedicated third strike but that scsi drive is making it less portable than needed.

Would you still need the security cartridge?
Or are the ISO’s decrypted?
The security cart embeds the main CPU of the board, so you still need it.
The BlueSCSI only emulates a SCSI CD-Rom reader. On it you can put any ISO image you like: original CD, Darksoft release, etc.

I'd be interested in one if it'll fit in a Jasen CPS3 case and not short out on the rear metal plate - can anyone confirm that this will fit OK in the metal case?

If you have the case on hand, give a try to a cardboard mockup ?

Cut 155x25mm rectangles and see how many layers you can stack at the back.
