Hello everyone,

I'm sorry to post a new topic, but I'm a big fan of Capcom and particularly of Lost Worlds/Forgotten World. I resold my pcb a long time ago and I was happy to learn that Apocalypse had made a romhack allowing to rotate the buttons (which is a very good alternative to the original controls).

After having had some feedback and particularly this video :

There's a problem with the Apocalypse rom hack, it doesn't react like the original pcb would, so here are the two possible scenarios depending on whether you fire or not:

1 - When you turn without firing, the character turns and the module turns around the character (which allows you to parry enemy fire and place the module where you want, rather like in R-type).

2- When you turn while firing, the character turns, but the module does not turn around the character, it rotates statically on itself while firing in same direction as the character.

In the video you can see the problem with the module, and if it's not in the same place at the beginning as at the end of the video, it's probably a problem with the input.

It would be great if someone who knows Apocalypse could talk to him about it and, if he has a moment, go back over his code to fix the problem. Not being able to turn your module is a huge disadvantage because you can't cancel out enemy fire.

Thank you in advance.

Out of interest what controls are you using? I notice that the fire button on top of the joystick you keep pressing. Why keep pressing it?
The original game has the spinner which is depressed and autofires when depressed. Your method above seems a bit over complicated. Also with this control method can you activate Mega Crush?

It's not one of my videos, it's just to show that when the person isn't shooting (doesn't press the button), the module doesn't rotate around the character when it should.

The controls for the Apocalypse hack are as follows:

- the stick is used to move the character,
- button 1 = shoot
- button 2 = rotate left,
- button 3 = rotate right,

That's a vid of my FW setup using the Apocalypse roms and some hardware hackery. I put this together before Darksoft released the cps1 multi and the hardware which enabled spinners to be used on the original FW rom. You can read more about it here:

The fire button on the top of the joystick is a latching off-on-off button. You can tap it to fire and to activate mega crush when you want, or latch the button closed and auto fire. I never loved the push-down-on-the-spinner-to-fire mechanic so this is what I came up with and was generally happy with it until the Darksoft multi arrived.

As to the behavior of the module in game, I can't really speak to what the Apocalypse rom may or may not be doing. All I really did was take the spinner left/right motions and input them (via Brizzos pcb) into the buttons that turn the character in the rom hack. Pretty straightforward from what I surmise but it could be something else.

Either way, I don't have a direct line to Apocalypse myself but wanted to inform your question as best I could.

From the video it looks like the module is slowly rotating around the character clockwise. That's probably something to with the way autofire has been set up. As I said autofire isn't needed on this game as depressing the fire button autofire's automatically. Maybe something to do with the code or the set up? More likely the complicated set up like that as it has more failure points and that's probably why Capcom opted to use a spinner with a switch for firing.
Each to his own on how you play this game but gameplay / concentration is seriously affected by constantly switching between fire / rotate / mega crush / fire / rotate etc etc constantly. This game gets quite frantic all the way through and having an extra button to press seems a backward step. A joystick and x3 buttons would probably be better if you had no OG solution

I agree with Manimani, problem with this hack.

When you rotate with no fire, the option don't turn around you in Apocalypse hack.
The option revolves around itself.
Normally, when you rotate, the option turn around the player.
And when the option is at the good place you want, you can push the fire button and the option rest in place.

Difficult to understand the problem if you haven't play in real with spinners :)
I look into the Apocalypse code and seem to have 40 modifications.
Hummmm.....
