What's new
Is there any chance of an F2 multi? Or are the ROM boards just too different? I always have hope that everything with a common motherboard/ROM board will eventually have a multi
not likely to happen. F2 isn't a "Mobo"<->"ROM board" relationship it's a "Mobo"<->"CPU Board" relationship, where the CPU board is common across games but the mobo is not. And each unique mobo has lot of unique customs (anywhere from 3 to 8 per game), sometimes extra RAM or other co-processors that are maybe only shared with one or two other games.

you can see how many different customs are used here: https://www.arcade-projects.com/thr...-into-something-else.11225/page-2#post-197549 All of that would need to be incorporated into the "multi" A multi would involve emulating all of these customs and co-processors with FPGA or similar and at that point you might as well just run Mister because you'll have more emulated hardware than original hardware. Also consider how much work and effort went into doing that for the Q-Sound FPGA replacement on DS's CPS1 multi and now multiply that work and cost x15 for games that people honestly care a lot less about, never-mind the argument that's not really truly original if it's being emulated on an FPGA.

so yeah, I wouldn't hold my breath for a multi.

Ahhh, gotcha! I figured it would be impossible, given how difficult the single conversion I have seen is to do. Bugger, an F2 multi would be so good.

I don't believe Football Champ would be a donor. Metal Black is probably the next most likely conversion target for Football Champ, though would require extensive memory remapping. You are correct that the customs on Drift Out are the same as PuLiRuLa, though if you look at the memory map in MAME you'll see that it's quite different and PuLiRuLa has additional Sprite Expansion RAM.

Drift Out has similar map to Cameltry, and indeed I found a DriftOut Prototype PCB that started life as an original Cameltry, but with MANY MANY factory wire modifications.
But Football Champ/Eurochamp are perfectly compatible with Dead Connection, right?

I only want Dead Connection and Pulirula from that system.

seems like Mega Blast just needs the init check patched out

looking at the memory map though there doesn't seem to be anything else that is mapped similar. Mega Blast has it's RAM in a totally different spot than all of the other games so there'd be a lot of remapping work required to get a conversion done.

Yeah that was my guess, it could be done, but considering how many patches and wires going on, i'm not sure if it's worth it or not.

if you're going to spend the time patching a game Metal Black is probably a better choice.

Would'nt i miss a GFX chip doing that ?
(don't tempt me :D)

Not if you start with Football champ. Aside from memory remapping you'd have to patch it for a different IO chip.

looking for some guidance in this thread. bought a dead connection via ebay (italy), probably someone from here! anyways the jumpers seem to match @twistedsymphony post, but it strays off and is jumped to the motherboard instead. this makes it impossible to switch carts to other games. can someone tell me where to reroute this wire? and also perhaps why they went this route vs keeping the jumper on the rom cart? @mypinballs help!

here is underside of rom cart, they used hopefully a insulated yoke wire. you can see the 4 connections made on the eprom on the right, the wire then goes straight to the mobo connection posted in the next pic. i want to remove this and make it stay on the rom board only.

where wire connects to on mobo. im holding the cut side, had too in able to separate boards.

thanks!

looks like the jumper is going to pin 46 of the 68k which is A19.

they probably went this way so that the jumper that would need to go to one of the connectors (and therefor would be soldered on top and visible) would be hidden under the ROM board.

IMO this is the kind of thing someone would do if they want to sell this as an "original" and not a conversion to unsuspecting buyers. <_<

ok, so what is the solution or best way to route it so that i can disconnect without cutting a wire? also it was clearly sold as a conversion so i knew that going in.

allright, i just ran a new jumper wire with a disconnect in the mean time when using dead connection cart.

moving on, does the dead connection conversion require modding the motherboard? i have three other taito carts i tried with this board and none of them boot, one does a coin error reset loop the rest are black screen. seems unlikely all three would be toast.

best advice I can give you is to review the wire routing I posted earlier in this thread. I don't have my modded board anymore and it's been long enough that my advice is only as good as me reviewing my own post here.

it does not, though I'd look over it for any other modifications, trace cuts, or solder blobs, etc.

I've heard of people not being able to run other games on a Football Champ mobo, it's unclear why as I've never had one of these boards in my hands.

it's entirely possible that Football Champ doesn't use parts of the mobo that the other games do use, and one of those parts causes it to not run. Again, hard to say without having had one in my hands.

got it. i can live with the jumper i made. regarding the mobo. it looks like this is the short version. are there only two? long and short?

are there only two? long and short?
yes and no, most people just identify them as long and short, but there are a few revisions of each. they SHOULD all be functionally identical.

@AlxUnderBase Was it you who had the Football Champ mobo that didn't work with other games?

Yes , its same situation here . We had some troubles with that motherboard .

@advans14 After some researches , seems is something faulty on the motherboard i have in set paired with hat trick hero romboard .

With hat trick hero is working like this (i didnt tried to convert it in Dead Connection since i have it on single board version)

Tested with Ah Eikou No Koshien is doing this :

After some researches conclusion is some chips (maybe sprite & graphic one) on the motherboard can be faulty and can work on Dead Connection and Hat Trick Hero without to be accessed and maybe that’s why your motherboard is acting strange too 👍🏻

I ended by purchasing a new taito F2 set to know my Ah Eikou No Koshien romboard is working

Both mothers (the one used with hat trick hero and the one used with Koshie now are short version ones 🙏🏻)
