What's new
I saw a very nice PCB on ebay that looks and is sold as completely original! It even says that it's used!
When I asked for a picture I got this:

The serial number matches on that can be found on this database and that actually is original:

When I told the seller w45050 that this is not original, he replied this: "I didn’t tell it’s original."

Be careful! if It's a repro or something different than original, it should be stated IMO.
I've seen his listing's on ebay and he definitely sells the 'repro' ones.

So I'm confused, he's selling these new "repros" but listing them as original? Sending fake pictures of real boards, but I assume mailing something else?

Making fake serial stickers. But the lack of stamped sticker on the back and gold plating still make them easy to spot.
^THAT^
He sells them as "used" and doesn't say that they are reproductions. I guess that if he plugged them once, you can call them used now.
Stickers are FAKE and copy an exsiting serial number of another PCB, probably to try to mislead people checking if that serial number is real.

These things are still selling. I wonder how long until the price comes down to something reasonable, without lies, that we can all just purchase?

In fairness, Link was clearly listing them as conversions previously, IIRC. I think he stopped mentioning "conversion" and similar terms because people have been reporting his listings and eBay has been removing some of them. That said, the latest business of adding fake stickers and not telling DS straight up that it's a conversion is not cool.

That aside, what do you think is "reasonable" for something like this? Nobody else has managed to do this, his R&D and tooling costs are far from zero, there's labor involved in assembling the boards, and we have no idea what his BOM cost looks like, especially for the SH-3 CPUs.

I'd pay $2-300 for all the Cave games I'm missing no problem. That's a bit high for a bootleg, but I think it leaves him room for profit without gouging us too bad.

$1k is ridiculous.

Its gonna end up like all other bootlegs, in 5 years no-one is gonna remember what happened anymore and people are gonna get screwed over all over the place with all kinds of excuses.

(Diffrent print runs, korean ver, bought in the 2000s etc etc)

Idk paying thousands for bootlegs just seems stupid to me, i mean you could just buy the ports and get a superior experience for a fraction of the cost (or hey just download the iso if youre really cheap).. it reminds me of people paying near retail for "thai originals" back in the ps1 era then being really surprised when they couldnt sell or trade them on once they finished them.. oh and lots of people got scammed by those too even tho they are very easy to spot..

Well unfortunately microsoft doesn't make Astros or egrets so I'm gonna stick with pcbs, even if they are "fake"

I guess the arcade experience is worth it for those willing to fork out that kind of cash for a boot
I can definitely relate where I'd prefer to fire up my NEO GEO MVS with an original cart via my Supergun over playing on my MisTer
Despite both methods being indistinguishable

Regardless if they are boots they still provide a true arcade experience in its original form

That said I'm quite satisfied with the home ports but if these boots ever come down in price to a fraction of what they're going for you bet I'm going to get in on the action :D

I have all the ports etc etc, but I really prefer to play on pcb. Thats why I built my candy park.
No loading/acount etc hassle, just flip the switch.
So getting 1:1 pcbs is super nice. Yes, expensive for boots but now for example I can play Sdoj on pcb and there is no way I would pay the originals price.

I guess its just a conflict of interest for me.

If you say its about the money why spend thousands?
If you say its about the experience why bootleg?

Ill leave it by saying its whatever you want to do, it just sucks to see people not in the know getting ripped off and as a huge CAVE fan im sad to see their games bootlegged like this...

Spend less to be able to play the games on pcb, that is a no brainer...
The experience is exactly like the original pcb, not so much with ports.

Im also leaving this, its just a circle.
