I'm in need of a Supergun to play a PCB I own.. and more in the future.. so I decided I'll start collecting Superguns just because I think they're cool. The first one I bought was a KIC 045 DX. It was super cheap on eBay, hasn't arrived at my house yet. I am doubting it works.. it's missing one connector, but could be inside of the unit and not screwed to the outside.., but I could turn the box into something maybe. Anyway I like it.

Anyway, attached to this thread is a book I bought in Japan. It's from 1996 and is 192 pages long. The title says something about Let's Make an Arcade in the Home. Chapters include:

Basic Knowledge:
- Board
- Harness
- Control Box
- Monitor

Practical Knowledge:
- How to purchase
- Let's build a system using a control box
- Operation check
- Maintenance
- How to store the board
- System Power up
- Control box
- Play using a cabinet
- Tables and uprights
- Mechanism of large dedicated enclosure
- Replacing the panel
- Purchase plan

Extra Knowledge
- Rare board
- Overseas version & flipper

and more. There's a section on nationwide PCB dealers, special section on Virtua Fighter, and more.

Tons of pictures.. harnesses, superguns, PCB's, monitors, etc.

I'd love to find a service to professionally translate this to English.

Amazing find! They say not to judge a book by its cover, and that cover doesn't give many clues as to the awesomeness inside - excellent detective work.

The contents of that book would have been closely guarded mysterious secrets in 1996 - the web was in its infancy, google didn't really exist. having all that info in one place at that time, mind-blowing!

Good luck with the translation, would love to see some pages in the meantime...

That book turns up at BEEP! and Book Offs but is ridiculously overpriced (compared to what it was). Looking like $60-100 USD+

Translating the book to English would be a mammoth task.

You could maybe hire the team at Shmuplations to do so, my guess is that it would be in the thousands of $ to translate given the time it’d take.

Unsure if the information in there is anything you couldn’t find on these forums, the Supergun thread on AO or otherwise though?

I don't mind if the information is already out there. I wanted the book either way just to have. I paid a good penny for it. I know some places I can buy it cheaper, though. I found a copy for $50 and a better condition one for $70.

What's interesting is the original book listed for 1000 yen in 1996.. right now that's about $6.73 USD.. crazy for 192 pages.

I probably will never get it translated, but would be cool I think.

I definitely would like to find what scanner would make the best scans and how to go about doing it to share it online.

Soon as I get some money I plan on scanning every page in and making a PDF. I wonder what's the best device to do so, though.

I mentioned above I have a KIC 045 DX coming in the mail.

I just bought a MAS Systems SuperNova which appears to be in excellent condition.

I'm not familiar with the rarity of these but people say there were only a thousand or so made and it's like a holy grail for a lot of people.

I'm super excited! It almost ended up in the trash. Someone working at a video game store got a trade-in and the guy as well as the store didn't know what it was so they didn't want it. The guy decided to donate it to them. One of the employees went home and did some research and that's how it ended up being sold.

Supposedly someone offered him $250 just for one of the joysticks, either way, I think I got a good deal and I'm happy to have it in my collection and hopefully use it if it works. You'll see me streaming on Twitch or something with a rare PCB.
