I like the small slot in your DIMM, very neat.
When the NAOMI boots it asks the security PIC on your DIMM board for which loader name to search for. This is normally ABC.BIN

ABC.BIN is not a file you need, it's the name of the file that will be written to the CF card by gcfi.

So all you need to do is:

gcfi -r -p -s 0x3030 -d d:\ -l ABC.BIN -g starseek.bin

Replace d:\ with the drive letter of the CF Card on your system, and select a suitable game.

rtw.. love gcfi.. its nice to be able to make CF cards and use non-zero keychips :D

I did take it apart to check the quality of the work, but I neglected to take pics. Basically, the CF card reader is built into one of the DIMMs.
 
Idk if anyone has been in this situation before:

A local arcade has two Initial D Arcade Stage 3 machines in the back. One has a dead GD-Rom drive and the other has motherboard problems of some sort. Both security keys do work. Is it technically possible to make use of a CF adapter for both ID3 machines while keeping the original keys? I would like to see the two repaired good and running again without ever having to rely on those GD-Rom drives. Most tutorials I can find involve some netboot and/or multi for home use but my situation is more for arcade commercial use.

yes, CF adapters was made by Sega to replace GD drives and discs, leaving everything else the same.

BUT! this will require DIMM firmware update to 4.02, and in the case of non-net DIMMs will be needed to desolder firmware flash ROMs and update firmware using ROM programmer device.

there is little to none difference home or commercial use
 
Exactly what @MetalliC said, what is the "Motherboard Issue" keep in my N2 hardware is notorious for the second gpu/cpu to fall off the pcb.. if the fans are bad, they system board will reboot or turn off.. but seems not to help the second cpu/gpu on n2.


and swapping the flash chip isn't to hard if you are conformable with tsop48 work ( i have done about 15 ) ..

Basically, if normal dimm ( non-net dimm) and is fw v3.16 or older, you replace the flash chip with v3.17 ) , then you swap out the media board with a net dimm pcb, do the flash update to 4.02 , then you can put the non-network media board back and then use the CF adapter burned..

you will need to dump the ID3 gdrom ( you can find the encrypted version online ) .. and then use the above tool to write the encrypted file to your cf card, making sure you use the file name inside the security chip ( i think guru has them listed on his site )

One Naomi 2 motherboard has a blown video DAC and the other won't power on at all (possibly a missing surface mount diode or resistor). Replacement fans aren't too hard too hard to find (any from Noctua should do) but fan screws on the other hand is an entirely different story.

It's also obvious I don't own the two ID3 machines and am trying to make this process as simple as possible for the owner as he doesn't work much on these types of games.

Edit: I think I recalled the dimm boards in the two ID3 machines are net dimm. I noticed the Naomi 2 booted as "Network System" once and saw an ethernet port on the dimm board as well. I'll have to look into all this dimm stuff and acquire the 4.02 firmware in some way.

A bit off topic but speak of the video DAC, there was info saying the Dreamcast's video DAC was different of the Naomi and aren't interchangeable; this may or may not be true. The reason behind this was there existed two revisions of the video DAC:
  • SEGA 315-6145 (VA0, Early VA1, Naomi 1) ROHM BU1426KS
  • SEGA 315-6258 (Later VA1, VA2.1, Naomi 2, Atomiswave) ROHM BU1428KS
The explanation why we first thought the Dreamcast and Naomi 1 had different video DACs was because not many VA0 Dreamcast motherboards were produced compared to later motherboards. Naomi 1 released before the updated video DAC released so Sega stuck to the first revision. It's currently unknown what the differences are between the two revisions of the video DAC, if they are interchagable and if later produced Naomi 1 motherboards used the later video DAC revision.

I have a 2009 pc that has PCI slots. I was thinking to install ide cards in them. Then I would be able to connect those compact flash readers. How do you get your games in compact flash? What is a good setup?
 
you only need a IDE port to read the Serial # off the CF Cards.. Once you have the 4 digits, just write them on the card using a usb cf adapter.

Then use the above posted tool to write the BIN file to the CF card..
 
Thanks a lot for your work @rtw , and especially for updating your app after the windows update that broke it ! (just got a CF setup and NetDimm, my win10 install is up to date, gotta admit I did not try NaomiCF) tried to write a game via usb (I was provided a CF with the offset written on it^^), everything worked perfectly, first try :D

Right, noob question time...

When I use NaomiCF I get "ERROR: Security Sector Patch" – is this because I do not know the ID of the CF card?

When in the DIMM cart the Naomi does: memory check, loading, memory check, loading, memory check then ERROR 21

However if I reflash the .BIN files that the CF card originally had on it, that I copied off the CF card and put in a folder on my PC, it works again: memory check, loading, memory check --> Success

Please advise, O Knowledgable Ones as I am currently trying every four-digit number from 0000-9999 to see if I can find the ID – HA HA! OH MY!!!

Ah, ok – apologies if I offended you – none was intended!

I am struggling to find a computer with IDE interface and power connector which is that small from IDE – I have an eMac that is close but no good for the software I guess. My PC is a laptop and all connections don't look IDE when I remove the optical drive etc. Please excuse my ignorance – similar along the lines of what somebody else mentioned – I'm more art/throwing paint than technically minded – ha ha!

Maybe I can pick up an old PC locally for the IDE interface or even fit one into my son's PC when he comes home with it.
