CPS1 Multi. Official Thread

Yes, now that I have all the components, price is clear. 650 EUR / 725 USD. It's been tested with all CPS1 and CPS1.5 games.

You'll see a video very soon, that will clarify all your doubts and will make you see how much really is this kit worth.

Thats a good chunk of money but you’ve always delivered before so I see no reason to doubt this one :)

Will pick one up from saveyourgames

Well in two years when chip prices come down it will get a bit cheaper. I think we all hope thats what happens with chip supply/prices anyways.
This is a rough time for everyone, big and small, supply chain issues just hitting across the board.

We're not going to get better news for the SH2 Psikyo multi either, or any other project in this realm, this isn't gouging, it's the way of the world right now. Hobby stuff just getting pricey. I'm glad you're even able to make it at all, and I hope you sell enough to recoup your costs. I hope the same for these other projects, some of them might just end up victims and never happen.

I'll be honest, it's probably too expensive for me. I want to support the project, and I don't fault you guys for the price, but it's twice what my CPS2 multi cost me, for a system that isn't as important to me, and that's just hard to swallow. Will sleep on it.

It’s a lot of money, at the end of the day people would have paid about $1000 for the multi, the donor and possibly the additional C-board.

To put it in context, the Irem M72 multi is a little over the $1000 investment point. And you get way less games, and way less variety.
Mind you, M72 boards are pretty rare now, while CPS1 boards are still easily obtainable. But still, pound for pound the CPS1 multi has a lot more going for it.

I’m still planning on getting one. Just not right away, need to generate a bit more hobby money and save up a bit. It’s not coming for a couple months, so I got some time to sell my body for it. 😂

You get what you pay for and with this multi, every single $ is worth. This has been over 2 years of development. Integrating 2 PCBs into one, so you can have CPS1 and CPS1.5 in one single Multi. Just the price of a CPS1.5 game costs that much, and only if it's a cheap game! This is just the best solution I could ever think of. Wait for the video and you will see :)

The price is completely reasonable once you consider it is adding CPS1.5 support to any CPS1 board. That said, do I wish it were cheaper? YES!

Respectfully, I don't think this will happen. Even prior to the pandemic, the CPS2 multi never decreased in price AFAIK, in fact I can remember the price increased at least 3 times since it's debut. (correct me if i'm wrong). In summer of 2018, I paid $375+ shipping for the multi ( just checked my reciept ) Soon there after it was more like $500. Now the V2 is $600.

Of course, inflation is high and the v2 kit had new development, but the historical trend is up.

Again, all respect to the dev team, your efforts are applauded and appreciated. You deserve the rewards for your effort and I will probably buy a multi. I just don't think any kind of specialty item like this will get cheaper.

Maybe, maybe not. I think it's certainly true that it's difficult for prices to go down, historically speaking. On the other hand, if you have a fixed profit margin on something you're good with, and your costs go down, it's smart to lower your price to try and reach people who were scared off by the higher price tag.

The reality is the chip shortage issues are creating artificial inflationary pressure that will likely ease once the shortages do too.

Nobody has a crystal ball, but I respect Mitsurugi-w trying his best to be honest about the situation. I'm sure they want to get this board into as many hands as they can after all this work.

It may never happen. They might only make a limited batch and then stop for all we know. If you want one and can afford it I wouldn't wait. This hobby doesn't tend to favor waiting, that much I think is pretty certain. But sometimes it works out.
