DARKSOFT CPS1 Multi - Support thread

Does it have the same gfx glitches in all games? To me it looks 100% like a bad C Board. Try with another one if you can.

As previously posted, I had changed the sound module to the original qsound. But I put the Cadillac game and there is no sound coming out of the jamma. In this case, does sound only come out of the RCA terminals or would it also have to come out of the jamma?

It should come from Jamma as well, but try RCA first and don't forget to check the volume pot for Qsound games.

Do I understand right that it works well with the FPGA based Qsound module but not with the original Capcom?

Make sure that the Qsound chip sits properly that's the most common reason as those CAPCOM-Q1 chips have been desoldered from another PCB and may not make good contact.

Thanks again for the tips. I removed the qsound chip from the board, cleaned it, and reconnected it to the board, and now everything is working perfectly in all qsound games.

Hi guys,

Sound doesn't work anymore from the CPS 1.5 games, so the games that required the Q-Sound.
These games boot and work normally, just no sound from them either with or without stereo output.
Among them, Muscle Bomber Duo doesn't boot or boot a black screen with a writing at the bottom saying "Address Error 0000FFF5".

All the other games, so the CPS 1 games, work well.

My multi version is the last version one equipped with the Lucent chip, bought last August from SYG and mount a Darksoft C board. The A board used is the Dash version.
I have used the Multi every day during the first month with no problem. Tested all the games available from the Multipacks.
A while ago I turned the Multi on for a quick game and I noticed no sound from the CPS 1.5 games, but I let it go as I thought that could be the dip switch layout that I changed before for some games... I went through it during this holiday and unfortunately, I discovered that it is not about the dip switch...

I think the fault is about the Multi board as I tested it with two A boards (Dash) with the same result.
Soldering is ok. Continuity tested on both solder and component side.
I have tried the Multi with my HAS and with my NAC with the same faulty result.
I have also tried to repeat the installation procedure, but no luck.

Also, when I fresh installed the Multi on a new A board, the first time that I booted C&D the sound worked for about 5min, then gone. Re-checked and Re-installed everything but no luck.

Is my Multi board faulty? Any idea?
Thanks!

Did you also get a different sound module for Qsound? Like the one that uses an FPGA? If you did, try that and see if the problem persists.

Hi Darksoft,
My Multi is like those on sale at SYG at the moment. Didn't come with any extra module.
I posted it here last August

Which is this FPGA module?

The module with the Lucent Chip can be removed and replaced with a different one. I would suggest that you remove yours, then remove and re-sit the Lucent chip into the socket and insert all again. Make sure that the module goes fully inside that PCB and double-check that the pins are all inserted and in the right place.

Please, send me a link of this module or procedure and I will have a look.

@Darksoft Thanks for your support!

I didn't know that the module with the Lucent chip could be "easily" removed.. So I did it like you suggested, plus I checked aroud some continuity, gave some contact cleaner and the sound for the CPS 1.5 games is back again! I hope forever!

I will think about the new module. I think I saw that thread in the past but I didn't pay much attention... Great job anyway. So, If I got it straight, the Lucent module that I currently have is FPGA, instead the new module on sale is like the original QSound, right?

I recently picked up a CPS1 Multi from High Score Saves that uses the FPGA Q sound module and so far everything is working great. In reading through the last few posts about using the FPGA module versus a Lucent or actual Qsound chip, has anyone noticed any differences in the audio output ? I have played Jotego's MiSTer CPS2 core quite a bit as well as had a reasonable amount of time with physical CPS2 boards and I have not really noticed much of a difference. I was just curious to get other opinions or experiences.

Case done!

Does anybody know the orientation on The QSB for the remote dip switch board? It didn’t have a qcode or any markers on the board for orientation. It’s not working in this orientation. Thank you
