It's the wrong way around.

Hey all. I am working on clearing Final Fight on the CPS-1.5 Darksoft. I also have the dual crystal mod. My darksoft B board replacement has the FPGA Q-Sound chip.

I've been having an issue with the sound, usually pretty rarely, but at least every 2 days. I'm worried about posting a clear with one of these sound issues occurring. Does anyone know if this can be fixed?

Check out a demonstration of the sound glitch here. You can see me reacting to it happening and I laugh really hard when Jessica says "CODY !" because of the sound that's playing.

I've had sound issues where Haggar will grunt while in neutral, or an enemy will wince after dying. I've also had completely unrelated sounds play in a stage, like the train sound effect lol. But the most common one that happens is the phone will ring and the rest of the demo sound will play.

Please post a picture of your setup. Which sound module do you have? Does it happen with the dual crystal mod installed as well?

A quick note, my crystal mod cable head is upside down on purpose. The pins were built in reverse, so as a fix i cut the clip off and put it on upside down lol. I havent played final fight without the dual crystal mod very much because even though people say its only a 20% speed difference, it feels completely jittery and unplayable to me. Feels perfect with the right crystal though! Im not sure what the q sound chip is called, but i took a picture of it. I thought it was FPGA because it didnt look like the one i saw in a video where they had the original chip. What about the regular sound chip though? Did i get it in any of the pictures? Do you want any specific angles?

In which games does the glitch happen? Final Fight is regular CPS1, not Qsound, my bad. I would bet on some part of the installation maybe try to remove that cable that you plug in the 12V connector close to the RCA yellow connectors.
What are those 12V being used for? I would try without that. Do you have another A board that you could try with?

Okay, I'll try without the 12V. Its a rare issue, so it might be days or weeks before i can confirm if that fixes it.

I dont have any other donor boards on hand. But there are a few short A board games on ebay right now so I could try switching to a different one. Would the A board be your only other concern or are there any other parts I should try swapping? Could the C board have any influence on this?

I've only seen it happen in final fight, but I have been no-lifing that game. I think I would need to play other games for a long time before i would encounter it.

That's interesting. Post a picture of the C Board but ai hardly doubt that this is the culprit. I would say it's either the dual crystal or the A board. Maybe the 12V cable drawing too much power. If you installed the dual cryatal mod yourself, you can try to remove it, that's one test, the 12V is the other one. If that doesn't work, then I'd try a different A board. If nothing of that works, you can try contacting @Mitsurugi-w

Since you mentioned power I am thinking I might have a power issue generally.

See I also have a dedicated FF board, but I haven't been using it because it has a lot more slowdown than it should, under a lot less load.

There's also been a few times I went to turn off the supergun and felt a light shock on my finger.

I'm going to experiment with getting a different power supply, and also open up the supergun to see if anything got knocked loose. When I first received it the P1 side Saturn controller port did not work, and after opening it up I saw that literally it just became disconnected in shipping. Maybe some other stuff is slightly disconnected in there.

I also ordered replacement A boards. Even if I don't need them right now it might be nice to have back ups since so much goes on on the A board and they can be used for multiple games.

@Darksoft how do you think the CPS-1 multi would behave if ground was floating? I am inside my supergun right now doing continuity tests. Ground is hooked up from the AC input to the internal PSU, but I can't find any continuity between ground and the outputs which connect to the jamma edge of the CPS-1. I am very uneducated on electronics, basically learning as I go with google, so I apologize for such a basic question. But this should not be the case right? I mean even without knowing anything about anything I am still able to look at the pinout diagrams for these outputs and see ground listed, so I'd expect that it should be hooked up.

Actually I think this is me not knowing how the power supply works. I found the wires that provide ground

Ok. Got my A board back from getting the dual crystal installed. At first, on my NAC cabinet, it was only getting 3 or so volts.. and the power supply wasn't beefy enough to go past 4.25 with the cps1 pulling.

Now, using a beefier supergun psu, it turns on... but I get this after loading....

Im taking it apart to review the set up guide and I'll reformat the sd card.

Quite the relief. Going to see if the fix also squared away the power draw.

Edit: It did! Enjoying the cps1.5 multi on the NAC.
