DARKSOFT CPS1 Multi - Support thread

I don't have a multimeter, I do still have the original wires though, the guy who soldered em missed em somehow haha
Gonna nip to him today and see if I can't get them done right this time, sorry again for all the bother, fingers crossed this fixes things

I am not sure it will fix your RAM ERR, but either way, it's certainly worth doing -- clean up that whole area with isoproyl and just plug the wires in as per the manual making sure they follow the right points soldered underneath the board!

Ok got the wires in, far as I know they're setup correctly. Sadly that didn't seem to work
I'm seriously stumped

Try another SD card if you can and a fresh copy of your games.

Maybe also try another region of games if you own the backups :)

@Yoshin222 the symptoms is lack of sound in CPS1.5 Qsound games, right? Try removing that agere chip on that mini PCB clean it a bit and insert again. That should fix it.

Just to be OBSCENELY clear, the chip ya mean is where the "sound is populated? The ridged one near Jamma In?
I'm sorry I know this is probably a dumb question, just being safe haha

There is only.ine chip that says "agere". Make sure the orientation is right when you insert it back in again.

Tried 3 C-Boards (One of which being a clean 92641C-2 which was working only days ago, fairly confident that's not the problem) and 2 compatible A-Boards (1 of which I KNOW without a shadow of a doubt works, played Knights of the Round no bother)
While sorting the PAL, I admit a pin chipped off somehow, my mistake there, it just happened. The Reset wire was seemingly not soldered especially well since it just slid off, but I can't fathom that just shutting the thing down like this unless I'm missing something.Only other factor I can think of there was a single instance where I got a small shock from the CRT while holding the LCD (wanted to adjust the volume)
I am aware I am an absolute moron, I just seriously don't know what to do or what happened. It went from just lacking Q-Sound to seemingly having nothing BUT CPS1 Sound, I'm not made of money and I'm mad at myself
Sorry for the ramble

Please post pictures of the C board. Are you confident that they dont have any default hack made?

Do you mean 92641C-1 ?

It looks like your A boards IMO are OK.

It went from just lacking Q-Sound to seemingly having nothing BUT CPS1 Sound,
Some would call this progress. And yes! if problem is only sound, it could be the PAL, but your main problem is no GFX, right?

Aye, no GFX
Like I said this was JUST working, no hack or anything, I have no reason to believe it's scuffed. It's just mad demoralising to go from that to nothings ugh 😂

That C board looks good. I think that you need to revert your CPS1 setup to roms again to make 100% sure that this A board and C board work well. If they do, then we can focus on the multi. If it's the PAL, I can help you getting a GAL programmed.

Yoshin222, as per our chat, I hope you can get your setup working. If not, i'd be happy to have a look at your setup if you're ok with posting it to me? I can do some board swaps from my working setup and hopefully pinpoint the problem.

This is the way!

Yoshin222 sent his board for me to have a look at. Multi appears to be working fine, A and C boards aren't playing nice though. :(

Adding my findings here as a FYI for others

But now these weird vertical lines show up, what's up with that? (Homebrew thing but this happens with everything)

So tested the other C Board again, and sadly it seems that for one reason or another, the C Board is the thing causing the problem. It must've gotten damaged when I flicked it on or something
This tallies up with my findings. The vertical jailbars are caused by the C board. Swapping to a working board clears the jailbars. Applies to CPS1 and CPS1.5 games.

On top of that tried, running Punisher only for it to return a RAM ERR, I assume that's an A-Board issue?
This is an A board issue. The A board appears to work fine for all the CPS1 games I tried, but I saw the same RAM ERR when trying to boot up CPS1.5 games (I tried Punisher and C&Ds)

On the plus side, the multi board appears to bevworking nicely. I tested various games, and also made sure mono from jamma edge and q-sound from phono was all working.

The Forgotten Worlds button hack (by Apoc?) has never worked on my muti, and this week I tried downloading a new rollup pack and tried multiple versions of it.

For me, they all display the "W" at of the very first information screen and then it hangs.

Is this a dipswitch thing? Does anyone know why this would be happening?

Also I keep the 3P harness plugged into my board, and I tried FFAE and the 3P character started on its own and buttons would fire on its own.

Anyone know why these things might be??

What is the correct voltage for the CPS1 multi? Can anyone recommend a reliable power supply for a cabinet with the CPS1 multi?
