CPS1 Real Arcade vs Fightcade vs MiSTer - 3 Way Showdown...

Great video! And that's the reason why nothing beats original HW. And IMO this test only shows one player jumping, if it was a real fight with rewind, I think that we would see much more difference in frames.

Thanks a lot for the video. I wonder if this is an issue of which timing crystal the core is using. I think depending on the upgraded PCB, there could be two different speeds as well?

I tested a few other cores that were supposed to fix this they done a bit better but still behind real hardware and even Fightcade FBNeo. 🥲

I think this isn't really meaningful due to the long video processing chain.
Please repeat it with directly connected 15khz CRTs.................

I've tested it connected to my CRT and it's the same result when it comes to MiSTer vs Real Hardware there is only 2.3ms of processing lag due to RetroTink 4K the MiSTer and CPS1 are both being output over RGB to the RetroTink 4K which is in the lowest processing lag settings.

Hyper fighting has been way too fast on Mister ! Great job. This has been an issue on Mister forever, and the Hyper Fighting community moved on from Mister being a viable alternative since literally nobody believed us. It has been brought up to Jotego many times, and I stopped keeping track of the responses.

There's only so many donor q sound chips.
I like the option to choose.
Its a lot of work to do a fpga core.

Any chances of testing GroovyMAME as well? People over at the Arcade Controls forum swear over how low latency it is.

Funny, I found that Winkawaks Emulator plays X-men VS Street Fighter better than FBneo core and MiSTer core (I mean no graphical issues)

Do you mean the standalone emulator or the Groovy over Mister setup? Because latter one is pretty wild.

Quote from RetroRGB's video description: "In the video, I dive into my "dream setup" centering around the amazing app called "Groovy MiSTer", which uses a simple PC running RetroArch and GroovyMame. And all hooked up to my MiSTer for an incredibly accurate, zero-latency setup."

PC and Mister are connected via LAN.

Also, it would be interesting how Mister's input lag compares to OG PCBs. According to RetroRGB most console stuff is equally fast if not faster at times. But arcade cores are a bit different as they aren't as low level "emulated" as well documented consoles.

I did an "input lag" comparison myself a few years ago during covid with a slow mo camera and led hooked up to button 1.

PCB vs GroovyMAME vs Mister vs PI.

PCB, Groovymame and Mister were pretty much all the same except I think the bad dudes core and neo geo (Metal slug) core was an extra frame of lag on Mister compared to PCB/GroovyMAME. CPS 1 and 2 games were the same for input lag.
As far as I know Mister cores are all independently developed so it proably depends on the core author rather than an overall maintaner of the mister code base.

GroovyMAME (with frame delay 7) was the same as PCB in all my tests.

The PI was way off though. Honestly I recall around extra frames 7 or 8 frames of input lag. It sounds a lot but playing it causually you wouldn't really notice. The PI did have an extra PI2JAMMA device in the chain so that might have been the cause.

It was fun to see the input lag in slow mo with the crt beam rolling down the screen every frame. Even games that feel like no input lag like CPS1 Street fighter 2 actually have a couple of frames of lag on the PCB for weak punch. Some characters like ryu even have two frame of animation for the punch whereas other like Guile have just one frame for the punch animation.

The groovymister project is interesting if you already have a mister and a good PC and don't want to faf around with an old ATI card in your nice modern PC or getting dedicated groovymame PC.
Another option is the "Video Amp" project on this forum that lets you hook up any PC to a CRT with any graphics card and works with GroovyMAME. I haven't input lag tested that one either.
