DARKSOFT CPS2 Multikit: Instructions and videos (old version till 10.2020)

It depends if you have installed the firmware and the cables that inject keys or not. If you don't you can only run Decrypted Romsets from Team Avalaunch. If you have them, then you should be able to run everything.

Hi DS, I haven’t done either yet it only arrived yesterday. Do you think I can upgrade firmware with an SD card? My multi does have the one cable connected that allows it to reboot after changing games.

That all works but I want to add a couple of games I like.

I do need to do the sound crackle mod though, that’s a definite.

Thanks.

I think that you should send it to someone to do those upgrades for you. Check with @Mitsurugi-w and see if he has the time. Or if you have the skills, then should be OK to do yourself.

If you have a very very old firmware, you won't be able to update from microSD, but I doubt you have one of those. Just copy this file into the root of your microSD and see if the LEDS on the multi start flashing.

Wait about 30 secs for it to finish and power cycle. The file should be gone from the microSD.

If you have only one cable on your multi, then probable it doesnt have the oldest FW, but one that allows to reset at least.

Excellent, I will give that a try - it did come with an SD card and half a dozen games which when you write a new game it reboots and plays fine.

I just want to add Zero 3.

I put that FLASH image on the route on its own card which displayed No SD, I then tried adding that FLASH to my working SD card but the multi just ignores the file.

I think it’s safe to say I have a very rare as original CPS2 multi! Hmmm I just need to add Zero 3 or should I buy one of these programmers to get the 1st firmware update installed….

Yes I unzipped it and added flash.img at the root, it didn't delete the file either..it was the only file on the card after previously formatting Fat32 - then tried on a working card with Roms etc and again it ignored the file.

Then you have a really really old FW and need to updatenusing a stm32f4discovery.

But if you just want to play zero3, just look for the game, and copy to the microsd.

Cheers DS, I thought I downloaded Zero 3 from the avalanche cps2 site but it's only 4 meg unzipped. Still perhaps in time it will turn up or I may buy one of these discovery things.

What people need to understand is that the decrypted sets are only a subset of the entire CPS2 catalogue. The creation of decrypted sets was a manual task it was not automated in any way. If you do not upgrade to firmware which adds encryption support and solder the wires to program the keys you will be missing out.

Thanks for the info, I can see I made a mistake buying such an old version… I thought I was buying a plug & play device like my MVS multi.

Seems a great piece of kit but I am going to stick with original boards.

I just want to play the games.

Once updated, you will get more out of it, but right now is functional. Just put more games into your microSD.

Will do, it’s just the ones I find all have a file for keys, so I guess that’s the wrong one for and why I get a blue or red screen on those.

I think it’s a summer project when I have a bit more time, will get it updated in time, it’s a great bit of kit, the games that are working are flawless. I notice they are all Phoenix versions.

Cheers 🥂

Send a picture of your B board. If you only have one cable installed, then you don't even need the file with the keys.

You need the Team Avalaunch files. try to google something like cps2 decryption effort by team avalaunch.

EDIT: those files from team avalaunch would still need to be converted for the multi.

Here is a pic of my B board, also included a pic of the remote board where I replaced the buttons as one had snapped off.

I have a few spare if any one wants, they work great.

That looks all OK. You update the FW using that J4 connector in a similar way that was done with STV. If you are OK with what you have, just let it and run decrypted games and call it a day.

Can anybody help me confirm where i can check/confirm continuity (on the ARM?) once i repair the broken pad/trace?

Hello, I had originally updated to keywriting firmware + wired the board when this was first released, but never switched rom packs. I just loaded the 5th June 2023 bios to make sure I was fully up to date, the bios file is gone from root so assuming that wrote ok, and then tried the unencrypted romsets. I put a nobattery file in each game folder, but I only get a jumbled screen or blank screen after loading a game. I put a decrypted rom back on the sdcard and it loads and plays fine. Did I miss a step somewhere? I am using this config,
Pinout for board revisions 93646B-3 and 93646B-4
CN2 interface pins:

DATAArduino #2→ CN2 A32
SETUP1Arduino #3→ CN2 A30
CLOCKArduino #11→ CN2 A31
SETUP2Arduino #12→ CN2 A29
Edit: Also saw some posts about power, I did notice a lot of droop first try and moved the output of my psu up so I had 5v after powering on the CPS2 board. Could it be related to that resistor at C32 linked here https://www.arcade-projects.com/threads/cps2-desuicide-troubles-on-early-rev-boards.2879/#post-63215 even if I am getting 5v?

Are you sure that you used the right FW for your version of the multi? I would remove that resistor, yes.
