DARKSOFT CPS2 Multikit: Instructions and videos (old version till 10.2020)

Do you happen to know where on the first gen CPS2 multi the audio section is generated for me to check? This kit works flawless except for audio - there is none generated either over JAMMA or QSound after the older “crackle” wire fix was done.
it is on the A board, the problem with the multi is that one of the graphics buffers drains some current that causes the audio buffers to malfunction, the A board get feed glitched PCM data which is reproduced at the speakers. The fix solves that issue

My A board works perfectly with all my other boards & the wire fix is in place on the first gen multi & am still getting no sound. I’m going to check the registers on the first gen multi to see if one or more might’ve bit the dust. Audio was working prior to the wire fix.

That is the point of the mentioned audio fix. The cps2multi introduced glitches on the PCM data being send to the A board. That's why it needed a modification.

You asked what/where the sound was generated and I answered. It is generated on the A board with data from the ROMs.

Ah. My previous question re: audio was meant to be limited to the multi itself. Obviously the A board does what it needs to re: audio but if the sound-applicable registers on the multi aren’t working properly it’s probably (likely?) the cause of my no audio issue.

Wow.

Solder bridge on U70 - the fourth, third and second from the bottom-most right pins beeped connected.

Three seconds with a desoldering braid/iron to clean it up & I now have crystal clean QSound!

Many thanks @Darksoft & @l_oliveira for continuing to comment on this! Love having this running to its fullest extent!!!

I guess this is a general CPS2 question but I'll ask here as it's for my multi, is there a hex editor or something I can use to make my decrypted ROMs default to demo sound on and freeplay? I'm not precious about using "virgin ROMs" and noticed there is a free play pack for some games.

A Hex Editor will just allow you to edit files. The key here is disassemble the game, find where those settings are checked and force them to have always default demo and freeplay. That requires modifying the code and knowing which bytes need to be changed. Then when you know all that which is the hard part, then you can use a hex editor and modify a couple of bytes.

I found a friend that had a Bambu 3D printer and am really pleased with how the LCD case and holder looks, came out much better than I was expecting. Next job on the list is to make a proper kick harness, I'm just using dupont wires currently which is obviously not ideal!

Some games were rental or sample and therefore do not offer freeplay mode. Example, all Brazil games were (supposedly or so Japan Capcom wished them to be) rental and lack freeplay option and do display their digital coin counters when you press action buttons while on atract mode.
