Been trying to debug my SuperBIOS CPS3 w/ no battery 2i cart setup and full simms. When 2nd Impact was already loaded when I got it, it booted up flawlessly. However, when I erased the Simms to write 3rd strike, it freezes in the middle of writing. Subsequent power cycles boots successfully but either freezes sooner or suddenly turns black. Then after many power cycles, boot fails with either a black screen or garbage.
However, when I let it rest (leave it off for a day, let it get cold), it boots up again first try, but I still get the issues. It feels either the SCSI drive or the motherboard, and the closest symptom that it has something to do with how hot it gets.
I'm currently getting a scsi2sd shipped to me to eliminate a bad drive, but I'd like if someone out there has a spare CPS3 motherboard I can buy so I can narrow down the culprits.
