Disclaimer: I'm aware that normally, CTHR is compatible with Type 1 only, but @winteriscoming suggests the net boot rom is hacked to allow Type 3.

It does load but there are certain scenes missing (black screen) in the attract mode. Does anyone with my config have a normal attract mode? The rest of the game seems fine.

I think the rom in question just has a messed up attract mode, though I don't have a type 1 to try it on. It shows a black screen with some hung up, skipping sounding audio. The game starts and plays fine for me, though.

I have a Type I Chihiro and netboot setup and can confirm the same issue with CTHR - black screen through some parts of the attract mode - audio is fine and it comes back at some point, but some scenes for whatever reason are black in the attract mode. Is there a different version of the rom that fixes this issue?
But to confirm; I have the same issue with the same rom on a Type I setup.

It's just my assumption that it's a hacked rom because it was the only thing I could boot without issue before getting my null key burned correctly. I believe this rom works without any chip installed, iirc. Maybe due to the hacking something got messed up in attract mode?

I don't have any proof of hacking besides my observations and I'm not even sure who released it.

I would think a stock version of the type 1 rom could be modified for a null key the way the other releases area, and maybe that would work on type 1 without issue? I'm not up to speed on that process to be able to advise, though. I thinks it's a matter of zeroing out the key it expects in a hex editor, but you probably have to update checksums somewhere, too.

Ive never had the issue using a HDD on a type 3.
Interesting. I wonder how that would make a difference. Isn't the HDD boot method still transferring the rom into ram? Wouldn't the end result be the same regardless of the method used to transfer to ram (GD-ROM, HDD or netboot)?
