Darksoft Neo Multi Help thread

How does one run homebrew games? The instructions aren't clear. I'd like to be able to try Golden Axe on the Neo Geo, for one.
You should create a directory named homebrwX (X must be a number from 1 through 4) inside your "games" directory and copy your rom files to it. The game will be displayed in the menu as "Homebrew game X" (or something similar). If you need help converting your game rom to the format require by DS multicart, just let us know.

There are 4 folders that you can use just to run any game. They are called homebrw1, homebrw2 until 4. Whatever you put there will show up in the menu.

Awesome! Thanks for the quick responses.

I have another question. So, I swapped out my UNIBios for the bog standard JP bios that came with my FZ1S, put some homebrew games in their respective folders and booted up my cabinet.

Sometimes the cart hangs on "Checking games...", sometimes the menu comes up and I'm able to load games into RAM. However when I try to play the games, they don't boot up completely or at all and the button combo to switch slots or return to the menu do not work. When I power cycle my cabinet, it isn't guaranteed to boot back into the menu.

Am I doing something wrong here? My board works with standard carts.

There might be some garbage in the microSD. Make an integrity check (Right click, properties, Tools, Error Check). After that delete the top file and clean backup ram and see if that fixes it.
You can also check the real values of your 5V and 12V in the cart slot itself.

Let us know how it goes.

My 5V rail is high at 5.8V, -5V is at -5.1V and my 12V rail is at 11.88V.

What's the pinout on the cart slot? I only see Vcc and ground in the one's I've found. Is there a 12V pin that I'm missing?

Hello, I'm happy to have put my hand on a new Neo multi from the latest batch at SYG.it.

I can't figure what to do to make Metal Slug 3 work correctly.
The music drop randomely in the first level or the second level and the sound effect remain.
The music came back some time when the level load another song.

I've no original MS3 to compare.
I've tried PUZZLE BOBBLE, original and on the multi : no problem.
I've trie NEO TURF MASTER, original and on the multi : no problem.

I've read a lot on arcade-project to try to solve alone the problem.

The hardware is a NEO-GEO MVF-2 with EURO bios, the PSU is a from a Sega Blast City.
I've try 5V, and below. The slot seems to boot at 4.8V also. No difference.
I've find it's a little better (slightly) on the second slot.

What a can do to rule out the multi ?

Thanks, I'll try !

How ?
1. On jamma edge without load.
2. On Jamma edge with load,
3. On board. If on board, where I can probe ?

Volts between 5,11 and 5,12 on cart slot 1, probed in game between pin 1 and pin 30. No cart inserted.
Neo Multi in cart slot 2.

Metal Slug 3, music drop in level 2, first try.

What do you mean "no cart inserted" ? You need to measure with the multi running

Multi is up and running on cartridge slot number 2, nothing is inserted on cartridge slot number 1.
Probing is made at the same time on the cartridge slot 1, voltage was oscillating between 5,11V and 5,12V during gameplay.
I hope that make sense.

Voltage is OK. It cant be that. which FW do you have installed? Have you done any update?

That looks OK. The cartridge is more power hungry at times and it may happen that it doesnt get enough amps at some points and the z80 resets and will get the sound back when the main CPU sends a new command. The reason can be mainly because of the caps on your PCBs as it looks like your PSU is good. Are you testing this in a cabinet or a supergun? Show some pictures of your setup please.

The explanation make sense. Thanks.
Sega Blast City, original JAMMA harness, original 100V PSU, external converter 230V->100V (top left).
Harness can be mono or stereo. Here in stereo.

Today result in slot 1 :
-First try, sound corruption (crackling) at startup in Axel F module. Power off.
-Second try, remove of the multi, reinsertion of the multi, no more sound corruption at startup. Metal Slug 3 run stopped at second boss "Aliens". No music drop. Power off.
-Third try, power on, Metal Slug 3, music drop in level 2. Power off.
-Fourth try (with voltage check), power on, Metal Slug 3, music drop in level 2. Power off. Voltage was 5.11V, no voltage drop when music disappear.
