I have a cabinet that used to carry Initial D3, minus the NAOMI 2. I was able to get my hands on a SEGA Chihiro board with OutRun 2 SP.
After a tear down and deep clean, I put all the boards back with the Chihiro in place. All seems to be working except for the drive centering step. It starts clockwise and goes about 90 degrees and then winds counter clockwise, but then throws up the centering error. The motor appears to be applying significant force both clockwise and counter clockwise.
Here is what I have done to troubleshoot so far:
Here are my questions:
Thanks all.

It starts clockwise and goes about 90 degrees and then winds counter clockwise, but then throws up the centering error. The motor appears to be applying significant force both clockwise and counter clockwise.
Here is what I have done to troubleshoot so far:
- I have compared the schematics from both Initial D3 and Outrun 2.
- The driver board is the same model. The connection is going from CN6 on the Chihiro fitler board to CN2 on the driver board.
- CN1, CN4, CN5 and CN11 are all wired correctly.
- I pulled the stopper cover off the steering mechanism. The stopper rubber on the top is actually in excellent shape (part number TOF-2512), but the stopper rubber along the drive shaft is gone (part number TOF-2509X). I am looking for a replacement, but I doubt I will find it. If anyone has a suggestion for a replacement, that would be great. Ultimately I don't think this is an issue.
Here are my questions:
- What else can I do? I haven't found much in the way of specifics for repairing this particular issue.
- Is there a decent replacement for TOF-2509X? I have heard that 1/2' heater hose works for TOF-2512, but TOF-2509X looks like it has a thinner center, so I don't think this will work.
- Is it more likely a motor or board issue? There are no specific error codes for me to research.
Thanks all.
