any thoughts why its like that ?
hint - likely result of piracy, when "netboot" genie was out of the bottle - it totally ruined NAOMI/Triforce/etc-related business for Sega and other people, so they not offering services or replacement parts anymore.
I've discussed this with Darksoft because I disagree with his view regarding these PICs. I don't see posting the code for a PIC to be a problem TBH. It's just one part of needed to complete the puzzle of playing a game. In the case of Lindbergh it's just one third of the puzzle. All three pieces being protected in some way. It will always be a sticky situation when talking about newer systems so we have to play those by ear. Security gets a hell of a lot harder to figure out after Lindbergh so I don't think we will have to worry about that for a long time tbh.
Bottom line: Posting PIC code is ok. Posting game files and roms is not.
We learned a few days ago that some companies do still protect their work from 25 years ago so the "Well it's old so they don't care anymore" argument does not work.

Nothing "official" and we hope to keep it that way so at this time, no, we can't speak about it.

@Finisterre If you plan on decapping the other pics, im all for sending you some donations towards the cost of getting them done.
Thanks for your efforts in this endeavor. I can only see it being a benefit for the community and hope that it helps others to begin and/or continue working on these systems.

Agreed, I hope the fresh energy to the scene can help fix a lot of stuff.
If you comply with any legal demands (judge, IP holder, law enforcement... not just "some lawyer") you will be just fine in my humble and somewhat professional opinion. I've been doing work with rom dumps, legal backups, etc., since NeoMAME and NESticle were relevant (who cares). But, the point is, I don't ever plan on taking legal risks over video games, nor would I ask anyone else to. Finisterre has a good track record of the whole doing it right (TM) motto, so I only see all of this as "good news" for the arcade preservation and gaming "scenes" as a whole.

If you remove posts when asked you don't need a lawyer. It's called the Safe Harbor provision of the US DMCA.
You have to ignore a DMCA for at least 72 hours for that to come in to play, where you might be remotely liable as the admin. I doubt you'll take that risk... Doesn't seem like something this site would do.
In other words, posting PIC decaps should be fine and I doubt we need any legal teams to settle that. IF sega cares (they don't) you have 72 hours to "warn" the user and remove the post. This is US law; if you're hosted elsewhere then this may be less precise advice. But the US is pretty strict on IP enforcement.
Your site, your rules, but in the US you're not liable legally for your members posts until you ignore legal removal requests. Again, I highly doubt this site would ever ignore a legal request.
