Golden Axe Port - Dev log

I am not looking to buy a repro-cart, since I am using my Neo Geo CD SD Loader, but it popped up while I was looking for something else and just wanted to let you know

I made this for the cart I will be producing when my Super Sidekicks 2 carts come.

I based this on an emulator box art I saw on @h0ffman itch.io page.

The png is here: https://imgur.com/a/qoJy58b

I sent it to @BIG BEAR for printing.

Hopefully, I did an OK job of lining everything up. I did one for my MultiMVS and that came out ok. fingers crossed.

I found on some 1 slot mvs that game won’t start, I can hear what dog click reset. Any one also got it with this game ?

What you think guys ? same cart on two different mvs model.

here the model where tha cart is not working: MV1FZ
the other model is a MV1A
Maybe its only due to mx29f1615 ad p rom

27c160 as C & V
27c800 as P or double it and use 27c160
27c1001 as M1
and 27c1000 as S1

you can use 27c1001 also on S1 but you have to invert pin 2 and pin 24
My donor carts finally arrived.

Hopefully I can tackle this tomorrow.

For 27c160 as P ROM does it go in P1 or EP1?

Thanks.

I attempted to create Golden Axe and Shinobi carts today.

The long story, short, is that Shinobi works and Golden Axe does not...

I'm using identical donors for both carts (Super Sidekicks 2).

Golden Axe just goes straight to the crosshatch.

One time (only once), I got a garbled NEOGEO on the unibios screen, followed by the silent Neo Geo splash (normal). There was some slight garbage in the splash. a little rectangle that didn't belong.

When the attract mode tried to start I got the crosshatch.

The ROM configuration is the same for both. Golden Axe and Shinobi:

m1 - 27c1001
s1 - 27c1001 - swapped pins 2 & 24
c1 - 27c160
c2 - 27c160
p1 - 27c160
v1 - 27c160
v2 - 27c160
v3 - 27c160
v4 - 27c160

Jumpers (same on shinobi):

PROGTOP:
- J1
- J9
- J13
- J16
- J17

CHA256:
- J2
- J3
- J7
- J8
- R1
- R2
- R3
- R4

V1 pin 28 ring came off while I was removing the original ROMS. I expose the copper on the trace and patched a small piece of wire from the pin to the newly exposed trace.

I have the same thing happen to a pin on V1 on Shinobi and patched the same way. It came out better on Shinobi but it's not as bad as the image appears.

Any thoughts?
Hello dude,
if Golden Axe just goes straight to the crosshatch -> go check your P1 eprom.
1) desolder it and try to dump to check.
2) on progtop for 2MB V rom and 2MB P1 rom is ok = J1 + J9 + J13 and J17+J16

Again, if game do not boot, check your P eprom... ( and its trace )

Are you sure that S1 pins exposed on back prob board do not short on it ? cover it !
Have you washed prog pin with alcohol?
If you get critical error during game play, check neo-273 on CHA, sometimes need to be clean also with al alcohol.

No need for a video. Fully aware of what's going on, just couldn't get the code to run fast enough to svoid it for all cases. So here we are.
Hi, I play Name 1975 with original MVS cartridge before playing Golden Axe and I noticed the same dashed line in the plane level. Name 1975 is one of the first Neo Geo game and it's interesting to see some beginner's mistakes on this system: https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxhwO4UTnFEcCHvTzx8Yuo26hRFZfp1SV0?si=aFN3RB9e1lzSZqna
In the plane level we can see also somes vertical lines for the backgroud. Anyway Name 1975 is my favorite Neo Geo game.

You can split the c-roms and use 4x 27c800 instead if you don't have enough 27c160s (my case).
C1 becomes C1 and C3, and C2 becomes C2 and C4.
This is what I've done since I'm still waiting for the 27c160 eproms to arrive
For prom, I' used 27c800, for m1 27c010 and for s1 27c1001 with pins 2 and 24 swap.

I've used a supersidekicks 2 board, with progtop an cha256b boards.
All eproms on the boards, except the V roms (waiting for the 27c160s). I'm assuming I won't get music but still be able to play.

The thing is that the game goes to the crosshatch pattern.

PROGTOP:
- J1
- J9
- J13
- J16
- J17

CHA256B:
- J2
- J3
- J5
- J6
- J15
- J16
- J17
- J18

Can you guys help me spot the problem?

I opened a thread for cart issues.

Mine go to crosshatch often.

Well, the solution seems now easy enough. J9 in PROGTOP is not the one, it shall be J10.
I confirm this in case it's useful to someone.
I used 27c800 por P1.

The cart is working fine (except that no music obviously because I have pending soldering the V roms)
