Will the retrotink HD15-to-SCART cable work with HAS 5.1 and OSSC or is the HD15-to-HD15 cable a better solution?

For that matter, are there any other HD15-to-SCART for OSSC cables that were tested and working?
Yes, the RetroTINK HD15 to Scart cable will work perfectly with the HAS V5.1 and the OSSC.

Bit of a long shot, is anyone in the UK planning to purchase a HAS or just meeting the $190 minimum order spend? I could really do with one of the JAMMA control splitters but as they're $50 it's nowhere near that minimum value. It would be great if I could piggyback on someone else's order. Happy to cover any additional costs.

I saw there was a mention of making a MD9 to HD15 adapter. Has the progressed much?
And second, will you be making the 3d shell STLs available for us to print?

The fix was tested and confirmed to work perfectly with the HD Retrovision SNES cable :)

It requires a bodge wire between the CSync and the Composite Video pins, as shown in red. Set the CSync on the HAS to 75R (deselect "TTL CSync Level").
Before I do this mod, your product listing says it is HDRV compatible but doesn't say a bodge is required. Did you fix/added feature to alleviate the need for a bodge?

STL for the V5.0 should be available soon, it needs some cleanup before the release. V5.1 will be released only when I release a newer HAS.

The HD-15 to MD9 (Sega Mega drive 2/Genesis 2) is in progress.

All adapters sold in 2026 already have the bodge wire; the pre-2026 adapters require the fix. I'll update the product description.

@RGB would you please consider back porting 4-WAY joystick restrictor gate emulation and Joystick rotation to older HAS Superguns?
I have a v3.1 one and I would gladly pay for an upgrade (both a pre programmed microcontroller or just a firmware file) for it.
It could be implemented with a legacy combo like press and hold down three arbitrary buttons and the Start button for 3 or more seconds… then maybe up/down for enabling/disabling the restrictor and right/left for the joystick rotation.

Thank you in advance.

Pre-V5.0 HAS units had joystick controls wired directly from DB15 controller ports to JAMMA, there was no microcontroller in between, which means an upgrade like this is impossible.

Question, and there may be a stupid answer to this, but I recently got a CPS3 and am using a kick harness with the HAS for the first time. HK doesn't work on the 1p or 2p side, but all the other buttons work fine on both (including 1p and 2p MK which I think is also on the kick harness).

I've tried different controllers (my DB15 Octopus and a couple of Saturn sticks, PS4 controller), and different adapters (native DB15 stick, your Saturn adapter, the The kick harness I got from you doesn't have any obvious visible issue, and given it's so simple, I would think I could easily see an issue if there was one. I've tried plugging into my JAMMA extension and directly.

I've run into HK/button 6 not working before but it was related to how I had the JAMMA extension connected. If you're using the HAS JAMMA extension, there should be a white dot mark on one end of the signal harness and it must face the PCB game, not the supergun and the same goes for the HAS power harness. Flipping the JAMMA extension 180 degrees fixed the issue for me so hopefully this helps you as well.

Cheers

Hi @RGB I have a 3.1 HAS and recently I got a Taito B/W Space Invaders 3 layers PCB.
That PCB outputs composite video on a pin and I bought (I'm waiting for it) a JAMMA adapter which outputs the composite video on the csync JAMMA pin.
Now my HAS is configured for 75Ohm buffered csync and my question is: will the composite signal (luma+sync) be fine with that config? I'll use that for the composite video input of my Sony PVM.

TIA

This won't work because you can't pass an analog signal through the digital buffer on the HAS. You could try the unbuffered/RAW mode, but it likely won't work either, due to the 470R series resistor used for TTL level conditioning on the video output.

The easiest solution is to connect the Composite Video directly from the JAMMA PCB/adapter to your PVM's Composite Video input, and just use the HAS for power, controls, and audio.

Yeah, this works… I was thinking to something like HAS->PVM ext sync in and then PVM ext sync out->PVM video in for having a single cable run to the PVM from the SCART switcher, which works for other retro consoles just switching between the RGB and composite input with the PVM panel. But I suspected the HAS did its work specifically for a pure csync signal.

Thank you so much

Ok. So I am having issues with a pcb and I've never had this issue with any other pcb. I have a Sega System E pcb with Transformer installed. The start buttons and the transform and fire buttons are all stuck on when I use it with the HAS. If I try to use a Saturn controller with the adapter then the directions are also stuck on. If I unplug the Saturn controller and just use a Neo Geo controller the directions work. But even with no controllers attached the four buttons are always stuck on.

If I use this pcb with a different supergun (MAS Super Nova) it works 100% fine.

Any ideas.
Only 7 years later..

The Sega System E uses +12V pull-ups on the inputs, which triggers the internal protection diodes on the MCU I/Os of the HAS. This keeps the optocouplers on the System E partially lit, so the buttons read as stuck.
It should work fine with the HAS V5.0-5.1 and RECO V5.1, since these use DMOS transistor outputs rated for up to +33V.

So I have to upgrade to finally play my System E pcbs? Lol

An adapter with +5V pull-ups, inverters, and a Darlington/DMOS array should do the trick. Or an MCU bypass. Sadly, there's no other easy way to make it work with the older versions :(

Edit: I might design such an adapter.
