Home Arcade System

The HAS and other accessories are back in stock!

https://rgbslab.com/

The current version is V5.1b. This revision includes some layout changes, but nothing that affects the end user. One minor firmware change is that entering the Legacy Mode (remapping/rapid-fire/profile load) is now also indicated on the OLED display, in addition to the P1/P2 status LEDs.

Due to several requests, I made a small batch of HD-15 to Scart cables that also carry power, making them compatible with EU TV sets. They were a bit of a pain to build, but they turned out really nice - individually shielded cores, highly flexible, and with a soft silicone-like outer jacket.

I also managed to restock the Dual Sega Saturn Adapter :)

@RGB any chance of doing a round of HAS with Sega Saturn control ports instead of DB15 controller ports? I see that there’s a sega saturn adapter but I would prefer to see that on the HAS. Thanks

I'll have a small batch of SNES and SNES Classic Mini to DB15 controller adapters ready next week. I just need to design and print the enclosures :)
Will you also restock the HAS 5.1b supergun prior to summer vacation or is that it for the rest of 2026 or most of it?

The HAS will be restocked after the summer break, so in ~2 months from now.

@SNK-NEO-GEO - No plans to release such a version, but if I ever decide to, I'll let you know immediately :)

First time HAS (version 5.1b) user here.

I'm having random crashes on one of my arcade PCB. Game freezes without any graphical corruption, sound still running normally.

My setup consists in :
  • a brand new Meanwell RT-85a with the pro cover
  • HAS 5.1b directly plugged into the game PCB, with it sitting on a notebook to be at the perfect height (comparatively to the PCB) as to not apply any pressure on the PCB's jamma edge
  • Solid 5.01V and 11.90V measured directly at the game PCB jamma connector
I've made sure several times, between crashes, that everything is properly seated.
Over 10 hours I've had 3 crashes, one instance while playing the game (probably made me miss 1CC) and two instances while leaving attract mode running, among which one crash occured 2 hours in, and the other one occurred 3 minutes after powering off and back on the PCB.

Consequently I've removed the HAS from my setup, and went back to running the same PCB on my Axunworks JJCBOX pro supergun for 30 hours straight without powering it off to assert whether something is wrong with the PCB, and it never crashed so far. I don't expect it will : prior to receiving my HAS, the JJCBOX pro is what I've been mainly using on this PCB, and it never crashed. Note that I run the PCB at 4.9V on the Axunworks because I didn't bother to calibrate and it's within specs anyway, and I use a jamma extension harness with the axunworks (not the case with the HAS).

I don't have my oscilloscope with me at the moment and due to the event being quite rare I don't have any measurements to provide when such a crash occurs.

I've not run the HAS enough with other PCBs to assert whether it crashes with those as well.

The HAS passes power directly from the PSU to the PCB game. Furthermore, the HAS's circuit is isolated from the +5V power rail with an eFuse (and a Schottky) so that short circuits or inductive voltage spikes on the controller or AV ports don't trip the PSU and reset the game. It's tough to say why you're seeing it crash. Nothing comes to mind, except for a different PSU between your setups.

Edit: There's one more thing on the 5V rail, a TVS diode. However, it's oversized, 12V rated, and meant to protect the eFuse only. It will only conduct above 14V.

Thank you for your input.

Switched back to the HAS 5.1b supergun, and bumped to 5.1V, and even 1CC'd the game in the process.

Will edit this post if it crashes again on the HAS.

EDIT : no crash for 20 hours straight after bumping to 5.1V, so I guess this is settled.
Most likely explanation is that the PSU had voltage drops under some specific load on this PCB, which are now compensated.

@RGB I have a HAS 4.2 proudly still in rotation & am wondering if there’s any way to disable the button reprogramming mode that occurs if one holds the start button down with two other input buttons?

Reason being is that I’m trying to play a specific title that requires this exact combination (start + two buttons) to unlock specific gameplay & I cannot do so without triggering the buttons getting reset with this exact combination. Any insight you might be able to offer would be helpful!

Unfortunately, the V4.2 doesn't allow disabling the remapping. It was added in later revs as mentioned by @Shin. What's the game?
