hello everyone! I have an IGS PGM, and I've had great success getting it to work with my LCDs/OLEDs through my OSSC Pro. plug and play, no problems. I have run into lots of problems getting this device to sync with my Sony D14-HR5U, though... I've tried running the signal through my gscartsw with sync regeneration enabled and disabled . . . and also through an extron 203, both with sync regen turned on and off, tried sync on green from the 203 as well. In all cases, I can not get the PGM to display on the sony- the best I can get is what's shown in the video- crazy curling on the left, and no image at ALL unless I enable the h-shift.
Even syncs to my panasonic CRT after passing through the sony . . . .but nothing I do to the signal is helping the sony sync to it. any ideas?
thanks!!

Multiformat Sony monitors like the BVM D series and 20L5 are notoriously picky with sync.

I haven't tried connecting my PGM to my BVMs yet, but the first thing I would try is a LM1881N. They're a fairly common choice as a sync stripper. I can try mine later to confirm if this works, but I expect that it would. I don't have a D14, but I imagine the result from a D20 would be basically the same.

yup, I knew that going in with the d14 . . .it's been working great with everything else I have hooked up to it (saturn, ps1, ps2, ps3, dreamcast) so overall I feel like I've been lucky. If I can get this working I'll be very happy, but if not I'll just keep the PGS hooked up to the big flatpanel through the OSSC
a LM1881N
I will check that out, though having tried 2 different sync strippers with zero difference I'm starting to wonder if ANY of them will do anything.

Saturn and Playstation 1-3 are generally not too problematic, same goes for Dreamcast if you aren't struggling with it's somewhat unusual DTV signal.

You start to see more issues with stuff like PC Engine, Genesis, SNES (in certain situations, usually more of a capture card problem) and various arcade boards.

my saturn does sync curling if I turn the SMS fix + sync regen off on the gscart switch. dreamcast does some curling too without those but not as much- other than needing the regen the DC has been fine, works in both 15 khz and 30 khz on the d14. PS2+3 both work great at 720p+1080i, too, so yeah in general it's been surprisingly smooth for me. I won't be buying any 16 or 8 bit consoles anyway, that'll all be mister for me . . . I was planning on building a little PCB collection, though

Best of luck. I've been busy with work (and Hades 2...) so I unfortunately forgot to test this out before you pulled the trigger on a sync strike. I'll see if I can make time to test my PGM on my BVM D20 tonight.

Finished testing.

My D20 reacts very differently to the PGM compared to your D14. The D20 displays an image from the PGM without issue when directly connected from my supergun via SCART to BNC, without any bending issues that your D14 shows. When I used one of my cables with a LM1881N inside, it actually had a fairly negative impact on video quality. The image was still stable, but there were issues with overdriven colors, and any image with white/bright colors showed severe artifacts. I also tried using my 203rxi along with my Splitfire, and that just refused to sync an image at all.

Very odd, and unfortunately wont be much help for your particular case. Hopefully the Sync Strike works out better for you. I should've thought about the sync stripper inside the gscartw, but I've never used one before, so dont know what chip it uses to do that.

Interesting! I'm very curious what will happen with the d14 now.
the gscart switch uses a custom alterra chip for the sync regen- it is supposed to work similarly to the strike, but it's not the same LM1881 chip. My gut feeling is the strike won't help, but we'll see.

Yeah I saw that thread awhile ago- I actually have the Sony svideo card, the Sony 129 component card, and 2 of the new reproduction cards from Martin- one bnc input and one scart/vga version. No differences between the 3 cards or the different inputs other than the vga on Martin’s card. Can’t get that to work with anything I’ve thrown at it- other than that all the inputs on all the cards work with everything I’ve got except the pgm.
reading through that thread again, it kind of makes me wonder if the issue is my supergun, since it's pretty new. I might have the same issue with the sync generation circuit in mine as that user did with their HAS . . .

Not sure if this will help

Have you tried routing the PGM through the OSSC Pro and outputing RGB to your PVM?

The PGM affects all my CRT TVs differently
I fix it by routing the RGB signal into my OSSC and passing it through to an HDMI to Component Transcoder
Fixes it right up

Huh I have not tried converting to digital and back. Might give it a try, I have an hdmi to component converter on the way already- I wanted to use it to hook my switch and ps5 up to the crts…
Thanks!

I've used this method exclusively on my OSSC but I assume it should work the same with the Pro as well

The OSSC Pro has an optional add on attachment that can output RGB or Component directly from the OSSC Pro add on board

I'd try that out but it's been out of stock forever

There's no added lag with using the OSSC as a Transcoder either which I awes in my books

I have the vga output module for the ossc pro- can’t get it to work with the d14 at all, not even the built in test patterns.

In my experience the PGM sync signal is pretty out of spec, and certain consumer CRT's wouldn't display an image with a supergun. The jrok sync cleaner didn't help. For the most part, you need to have a CRT that isn't picky with it.
