Hey everyone. I decided to start a new thread to post the complete KI dual mod. It is now complete, installation has been verified, print files all work, should cover both types of install, but I would imagine most will want that switch on the side. This is an Open Hardware project so anyone can make this from scratch.
First thing first, this wouldn't be possible without everyone involved in the KI dual thread (34 pages now) and BladeZX for making the files public for the Multi PCB. It gave me a template to start from and push this into full completion and welllll beyond with what I created. KI is one of my favorite arcade games so I poured a lot into this project. I hope everyone can complete the mod and enjoy both games.
Summary: This is a mod to allow the Killer Instinct 1 PCB to also run KI2. The guide will cover everything from start to finish. It is assumed if you're doing this mod, you know how to order PCBs so I didn't really mention about ordering those. Nothing special either; standard thickness, etc.

I will edit this post with another link to the PCB support I made for the KI Universal PCB case. There is zero center support so this will alleviate that.
I will also add some of the other prints you see in the pictures once I get time (like the KI grill, Spinal wire-route, EEPROM labels).
Everything is provided as-is. End users are responsible for the installation and anything that may come from it. You know the usual jargon.
Some caveats to this mod that is known and confirmed to be the weak link:
1) The MicroSD Dual Adapter are hit and miss. I've ordered from 2 vendors and I can't 100% tell if they will work. My card reader would not detect the adapter, but my standalone USB 3.0 MicroSD reader had no problems. Maybe it was a power delivery issue and the USB 3.0 adapter had enough...I don't know.
2) The MicroSD-->SD adapters included in the CF adapters I've bought are total garbage. I have a stockpile I saved from using legit microSDs that came with one and the difference in quality is staggering.
3) EEPROMs. Shouldn't surprise anyone here. Order extras in case one or two or more are duds. So far, any oddball behaviors can usually be attributed to a bad U98 burn or the above 2 caveats. My friend's issue was a bad MicroSD Dual adapter while mine was a bad U98 burn, to give you an idea.
I look forward to others building this mod and posting here. It'll be great to have more people get more enjoyment out of their expensive KI game.
