Yet again i see this sentiment. eBay makes sense if I want to maximize my $ in the sale. Often I want to maximize my happiness which is decoupled from $. I have several examples in the previous page and would love to know why those are “BS”
 
Please understand that I say none of this to be rude or disrespectful.

None of your examples require the use of an MMAO thread.

You want to sell an item to a specific kind of person or to a good cause? Post somewhere else that you're looking for the right person to reach out to for X cause and offer it to said person/people/cause upon identifying them for whatever you think is appropriate value. That way you don't waste peoples' time messaging you when they don't meet the qualifications you're seeking.

Only want to sell locally? Put your location in your post and say you're only selling locally (and price accordingly). People do this all the time.

Only want to sell to a "true fan"? Post on another forum (either here or elsewhere) designed more specifically for said item and/or check out the respondent's post history to determine if they meet your criteria.

If you don't care about money, sell it for less or ask for trades. If you want to find the right person, include your requirements in your post. MMAO threads just jerk people around who wouldn't bother responding to you if you were less vague about what you want in return for your goods (whether it's a specific amount of money or a specific kind of buyer).

I wasn't referring to you specifically, as I had not read this thread in its entirety. I understand your logic, though, of wanting an item to go to someone who will truly enjoy it, versus someone who gets it on the cheap and immediately flips it for twice the price on other venues.

Here's a good example. Recently, on a Facebook arcade sales group, someone posted up a whole bunch of items they no doubt grabbed for cheap on a past raid of an operator's warehouse. He was too LAZY to post prices, so, he ends his posting with "Make Me an Offer" on the items he has uploaded photos of onto his Google Drive. I state I want something, offer him what I *KNOW* is a fair price for it, and get a response a few hours later that he wants $X for it instead, because my offer was what he paid for it (doubt it, since it's been sitting in his storage for a decade, and I offered 2022 money for it). If you know what you want to sell it for, then stop being lazy, and stop playing games and post a price. All this kind of listing accomplishes is wasting my time with the back and forth. The same applies to forums that allow for this kind of nonssense.
 
I know theyre in different parts of the world, but probably a bit of an unholy hour for a ping. They are/were aware of the thread; I had a very short convo with them privately some time back. I just didn't think it would be appropriate to talk about since I don't want to spill any of their business and I think it's ultimately up to them if they want to say anything publicly. If they want to respond publicly now of all times then so be it, but I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you. They have a pretty firm stance on simply letting drama fizzle out naturally and not stepping in unless they find it specifically necessary.
 
i think the easiest solution at the moment is to not give offers on posts that dont post a price. if 95% of us are in agreement with requiring posting a price and someone doesnt do that, we can just let that post rot due to inactivity. if you do make a purchase without a listed price, make a for sale (sold) listing declaring the price, or in the original thread where all can see. just be aware that sometimes Sellers arent looking to make money... sometimes they r looking for the right active member to give their board(s) a new home. sometimes the boards they post up are already sold and, in favor of transparency, are added to the sale page along with other unsold games so all other forum members can benefit from, that price knowledge.
 
I agree one should never engage in MMAO threads, but unfortunately the 95 percent of us aren't driving up prices, it's excited noobs and opportunist sellers abusing them with MMAO threads.

The market here IMHO is not representative of the markets of other forums which protect their members from this BS.
 
It's hard to say what I want without coming across as insensitive, so I'm gonna say this with the caveat that I mean no offense... the way the sales forum works is the way it works. If someone puts something up for sale, it is at their sole discretion as to who gets to purchase it. Whether it's a listed price, mmao, pre-order, or any kind of monetary trade or transaction. Not everyone is gonna get the chance to make an offer or swoop in and get the items they wanted. All this stuff hasn't been made in decades. Fund or miss out. Even in posts that follow the rules, I have seen ppl get salty over boards. It is up to YOU to act fast when u see something u want. You may feel like there's a secret underground ring of pcb dealers making shady deals behind closed doors, but in reality, u r just too slow. I have been here since July. Not even a year. I have already amassed a sizeable collection including many rare AF boards. The vast vast majority were bought on AP. U gotta be fast, and u gotta check the forums multiple times a day. U also gotta not get upset when you miss out on a board. Be proactive and keep hunting. Also, u gotta realize this isn't 2008 anymore. Boards that went for 200 back then can go for over 1000 now. Nothing proactive u can do about that besides pay the price and move on and keep looking if u can't.
 
I wouldn't mind volunteering to be the marketplace "post police". I'm on there often enough... at least 4 times a day. Thats definitely not my call to make tho. I just wanna make everything peaceful in my hobby. We got enough shit do deal with outside the hobby already.

Just based on previous public mod/admin posts that I can recall, this is exactly what they do not want, and they have said that other users policing/poisoning others threads have been an ongoing problem as it is.


Not that I don't agree with some things that have been talked about here, but just to put it out there since I was the one that started this thread after all: I'm gonna ask that someone kindly @ me if a mod/admin actually chimes in, but otherwise, I'm turning off notifs for this thread. I have no resentment for the moderation here at all, I think there are far worse forum communities out there and I do enjoy being apart of AP, though for this specific thread/issue, it's clear to me that this has just become a bit of an echo chamber and that there isn't much interest higher-up in enacting any of these suggestions/concerns. I'm struggling to think of a way to say it without being melodramatic since I really don't feel that way, but I very much see this thread/these concerns now as: "there's no point worrying about it, nothing will change, and I'm ok sucking it up and moving on."

There's still good stuff in the pipe for AP, but since this is a bit of an "it is what it is" brickwall atm, I'm just gonna keep posting and responding to threads in a way I know the rest of the community would want to be interacted with, and I think that new users worth their salt will stick around to learn what kind of etiquette that entails. The best interactions I've had with other members have been from those I know share my sentiments already about wheeling and dealing, and I've been fortunate enough to get hookups via good relationships here without having to worry about pinching my pennies and watching the forums like a hawk. Maybe some people prioritize collecting their games and sitting on a big dragon treasure pile as fast as possible, but I don't care about that really, and feel/believe that good deals come in good time with patience and connections with friends. There's always gonna be stinkers in any hobby; all you can do is treat people/transactions how you would want to he treated and try to do right by people, since in a high dollar community like this, having friends that look out for you goes immeasurably far in the long run.
 
This thread should be filed in the dictionary next to the definition of the idiom “beating a dead horse”.

At this point does it really warrant essay length replies and discussion?

But for the record, 100% I always have been an active advocate of, at the very least, leaving prices up for items sold and pricing items for sale.

I honestly did a MMAO thread to see if it would get shut down. It didn’t. So I guess that’s where we (unfortunately) stand with the “rules”. End of discussion really…

No it doesn't really help discussion, but it does help pass the time till 1pm eastern so I can see the new cps1 multi video!

I would contend to some degree that the policing and poisoning happens because of the lack of rules, many of which are standard across most hobby forums, but yea, dead horse at this point I guess. Which is sad.
