PSA: Recap your M92 boards!

I have put off doing recaps for my multi donors because they didn't "look" like they were leaking, however after removing a few of the brown ELNA capacitors I could see a couple that were leaking fluid from the underside with the gross "fishy" electrolyte smell.

Literally just caught them in their starting stages. Don't leave it too late. They will leak.

Thanks to @xodaraP for the cap kits (Aussies can and should hit him up for these).

While all old caps have the potential to leak. The Irem boards with the "brown caps" are notorious leakers.... So yeah check your board and if it has the brown caps replace them regardless

The green caps are just as bad on M92 - my Gunforce has green caps and many of them are leaking

Definitely worth recapping these boards before they get damaged

Really? First I've heard about the green ones. Crap. I guess I have a LOT of work ahead of me...

The brown ones are considerably worse and are usually the larger caps that will really cause damage. But M92 boards in general just need to be recapped

The Elna caps just aren’t the same as the blue Nichicons on Capcom and Sega boards that somehow defy the laws of aging

My 2 boards were both majority of green caps and each had some leakage.
None had bulged.
Both had leaked out the bottom.
Best to just assume all M92 need a recap I think.
It is far easier to recap a board than clean it after the acid mixes with the solder.
Caps that look fine can dry out internally also.
Stick with good nichicon or rubycon caps where possible.
Panasonic seems okay where there isn't an offering from above.
Good name brand caps last 25 years, and are less likely to leak when they fail.

Yep this is the same as mine. Caps weren’t bulged but leaking out the bottom

Good work on the recap
