First post after a bit of time off forums. I was working with @ImportantBet on an adapter to allow fitting of a meanwell RT series PSU into a Taito Egret II and wanted to give a bit of background (and ask a few questions). The Taito adapter listed in his sales thread https://www.arcade-projects.com/threads/egret-2-meanwell-rt-series-psu-adapter-pcb-pre-orders.36204/ came about after putting together a similar adapter for the Exceleena. This was required after finding that leaky caps had totally corroded the original PSU and having an almost perfect wiring harness i didn't want to just hack it up. After showing the results it was asked (I think half joking half hopeful) "if one for the Egret II was next" and what resulted can be seen in the FS thread. He did a great job of putting together the adapter and fully testing it so I 100% recommend getting one if you need to replace your PSU or just want a backup.

Anyway the main point of this post is to show off a similar solution for the Exceleena PSUs. I also designed up a 3d printed bracket so the meanwell and adapter PCB can fit in the original PSU 'box'. The picture of the fitted mount shows an earlier (green) revision of the adapter PCB, with the latest (purple) revision including a switch to select the rail (5v or 12v) the voltmeter is displaying and being the same width as the meanwell PSU (and the Taito Egret II adapter). I have a few of these and can get more made up if there is any interest.

I have been working on a similar adapter for the Astro City and Model 2 PSUs but have hit a wall in finding board mounted connectors for these. If anyone knows where I can find these that would be amazing.

Some of the Namco Japanese gun games (like gun bullet) also use the same power supply as the excellena, and suffer the same fate.

Could be worth seeing if your solution would also accommodate those 👍

Namco excellena ll, if you need any measurements let me know.

Thanks for that. I am pretty good for measurements. I had a friend with an Exceleena II and we checked the PSU PCB and the measurements of the open metal box it sits in, and they are 100% identical to the Exceleena. He has been running this adapter for a few weeks without issue.

I am however really interested in seeing the actual PSU inside some of the light shooter cabs like Gun Bullet or Point Blank and maybe even Time Crisis as suggested by @DRAGONKZ.

This is how the original gunbullet PSU is

The PSU on the left is identical to the Exceleena PSU and the adapter is designed to cope with the maximum Amps of that PSU so the adapter should work fine. However what is the second PSU? Just left of that for? And is it stock?

It’s the 24v PSU for the guns.

The whole assembly mounts at the back/bottom of the cabinet like this

Gun Bullet, Gun Barl, and Gun Ballina should all have the same setup. Ohh Bakyuun should as well. 👍

So at the minute in theory the adapter will work to replace the PSU. This is ssuming an RT series meanwell and the adapter is used to replace the PSU for the 5v, 12v and -5v rails and a second 24v psu is used to replace the guns PSU (or the original is retained). If anyone wants to test it I am happy to send you one.

Yeah the original 5v/12v psu is the worst. Mine was squealing when turned on and was leaking all over the place. I was lucky enough to get that psu in my pic to allow Joey go rebuild the psu.

The 24v is most likely fine to keep stock.

I’ve got a spare 24v power supply as pictured above that can be used to help dummy things up for an adapter if there ends up being desire to make a 24v adapter as well for a non factory supply.

The 5v/12v one is the main concern as @mR_CaESaR mentioned above. I genuinely believe everyone I know with Japanese Gun xxx cabinets have had problems with the 5v/12v power supplies having corroded away.
