Namco Noir advice

I guess plastic is easier to shape & cheaper to make I see it still weighs about the same.

I love to find a download for the manual but info on these is hard to find.

Not a Vewlix fan so this is the next best thing & good value for UK prices.

I was at Bandai/Namco HQ in London today & they had these cabs currently not working but looking nice I bet they were never sited & supplied new:

Grigio on the way...
I work at the us branch of Bandai Namco and we don’t have any noir/grigio there at all.
I have Noirs and was asked if I wanted to bring them into the office… I politely declined.
Enjoy your new Grigio, I just got back from Japan and was able to see them in person.
The Bandai office in Asakusa doesn’t have the cabs either. :(

Yeah, I have a Lindbergh as well, though it was more of a nostalgia purchase. I bought it in 2020, but I first played Virtua Fighter 5 on one in Japan back around 2007, and it really grew on me over time.

Then in 2008, I played Tekken 6 on a Namco Noir, and that was the day I decided I was going to own one someday. In 2018 - 2022 I now own three. I’d still love to get a Namco Grigio, but with no official arcade hardware release for Tekken 8, I’ve kind of passed on it for now.
Wouldn’t mind one in the future though. Plastic or not, it is a simple, but cool cab.

Got the Grigio today whilst some parts are plastic its mostly a metal shell with plastic over it still feels just as solid as the Noir but improved in many ways (but lacks the lit instruction space) for a used cab it was pretty clean inside & out 1L6B CP has minimal rust too:

Less psu's ect inside now just the one & its the same a P ras

The little usb charger goes to the header on the side of the coin in door so you can charge your phone, headphone jack with volume control is nice too the display is a LG unit & much better than the Noir Wei-Ya or Sanwa units.

Having this & the Noir does make the Lindy look very dated & odd looking though.

One thing to note about the Grigio is these are wired up for 1p only unlike previous generations that gave you the loom to the I/O there is nothing there now not so much as a problem if you are keeping it 1L6B or like me that will be running emulator based hardware & will use something like a Brooks but worth a mention if you are planning to run JVS.

Just another small cost cutting exercise on Namco's part the CP doesn't have the fancy catch where it lifts up either (which I always found more annoying than helpful) just 2 screws near the screen upper & lower CP is all plastic like a Sega NNC.

And the front door that goes the width of the bottom is plastic although this will be mostly off like on my other 2.

It still has the isolation transformer and a tapped off C13 cable to power pc's ect.

Vs my Noir which was 450watts this is only 200watts I use this stepdown to power both handy as its wall mountable:

As I'm just running a Pi3b for now I just bought a cheap usb encoder from Amazon but as the Grigio doesn't have the lit instruction space there is enough room for it to sit underneath the CP

1P on the Astro pad & 2P on the CP:

Big thanks for @HDemon for selling me a Grigio pad as mine didn't come with one & I like to keep things oem.

Handy for all those Naomi & Dreamcast games that need a analogue stick & the gun games can be played with it too.

Your welcome!

Thank you!

Cheers!

Now I have the Grigio here is a re-cap of the changes I made to my Noir V1 over the last 2 years+ of ownership:

LG Ultra gear 2k LED monitor fitted
2L12B new repo CP fully populated in stock colours with OEM harness
2P USB-Joystick encoder, stock cab wiring untouched so easy swap back to JVS
Raspberry Pi4b 2GB in Snes Pi case + fan, Argon one 18w PSU & Batocera image on 256gb SSD mostly 2D
FrancoB credit button kit
CP deck re-painted
USB breakout board handy for connecting keyboard ect
Lit instruction space upgraded to LED & brightness adjustable, MVS move strip
Cabinet art replaced
Sound amp & 12v PSU recapped & serviced by Grantspain/Gunblade
Power strip inside cabinet
New sound amp control board (no more muffled sound)
New Visaton FRS 8 main speakers

It's very much a keeper.

my first noir arrived this week. been figuring the ins/outs of getting the ps5 working in it. video is working through dvi>hdmi cable (tekken 8 looks surprisingly good in 720p). however, using and hdmi audio extractor i'm just getting hissing and buzzing when i plug the rca inputs into the pcb. i've verified it's not bad speakers or board by running an instrument directly into the board rca inputs. both inputs work fine on the board. is there something in particular i should be looking for in a hdmi audio extractor?

Just designed up a 3d printed front trim piece for these cabs. It is 4 parts (2 that you need to mirror in your slicer) and while the 4 parts should be glued, I put a dovetail and butterfly in each joint.for alignment and they actually hold alright without any glue. It just cllps to the tabs on the CP front. I was.going to add threaded inserts but it actually is holding pretty tight as is. Happy to make this available if anyone else needs it. I just need to clean up the the files a little and now mines done I wont get to this for 1000 years, so if you want to print one, message me and ill either do the cleanup or just send you the stl I currently have (which works fine)

Oh I also did some 3d printed brackets that screw to the front panel to hold a new screen. My screen us just something I had lying around but the should work for most (or only need minor in slicer scaling in one direction). Happy to pass these on too if anyone needs them but no photos because I already put the front on. I will need to take it off again when a few more things arrive so I may get an opportunity at that point if anyone wants pics.
