Works for both the 246 and 256.
You will need some additional hardware and software though.

the 256 has a jumper to set it to « 246 mode » so definitely go for a 256 if you want (and you do) want to play tekken 5

How do jumpers work? I currently have 256 hardware, and I want to jump to 246+. For example, I use 256 hardware to run 246+ mode, and the game is Fate - Unlimited Codes.

You have to open the system and there should be a place that has a jumper inside
