Hello everyone!

I just got my first Naomi 2 with a Net Dimm and I'm having some trouble with it.

First off the Naomi 2 will boot and let me go through the test menu just fine without the Net Dimm. When I have the Net Dimm plugged in, I get nothing. I'm using a super gun with the Capcom IO board connected to my CRT. My CRT shows a signal coming in and out periodically, as if the system is trying to boot but failing.

So far I've tried to removed the 1GB and replaced the original RAM. The previous owner already upgraded the RAM and installed a zero key. I also moved the jumpers to match this guide: http://8bitplus.co.uk/projects/netboot-sega-naomi-netdimm/

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to trouble shoot this?

thanks!
Robert

Update: I removed the board with the Ethernet port and now I am seeing error 22. Also when I go to the test menu, the test for the net dimm times out.

Capcom IO can't power a NetDIMM setup (it was designed for carts only).

Thanks for the reply! I also tried powering the Naomi 2 with an ATX power supply and the Capcom io powered separately. The power to the Naomi was measured at 3.293v / 4.942v / 12.64v. I've heard the net dim is really picky with 3.3v. I'm currently trying to track down a proper Naomi power supply. So far no luck with anything in the states.

Its true, and thats what the Capcom IO has problems with 3.3v.
I have a Mean Well PSU with adapter PCB, I keep mine at 3.4v for that little bit extra.

Do you mind sending some links to what you use? I assume it's a 12v or 24v PSU and then some step down converters for 5v & 3.4v.

I've tried looking but haven't had much luck finding a solution I liked.

the truth if it can power the netdimm system with naomi 2 and capcom jvs, what can happen is that your supergun does not have enough power due to the poor power supply of the power supply you use

@Tyson1911 no, its a well known fact the Capcom IO cannot supply enough 3.3v to power a full NetDIMM setup (regardless of how much power you supply it).
A popular mod exists that swaps out the stock Capcom IO 3.3 voltage regulator but I've never preformed this personally, I believe @Derick2k has.

@Robertguy09 I can show you my PSU, but it won't help you all that much because my cab is native JVS, thus I don't need/don't use a Capcom IO.

You need the Capcom IO for JVS controls, however you should be running the Naomi+NetDIMM off its own dedicated JVS PSU (only using Capcom IO for its controls).
When you install a proper JVS power supply you must bridge the DC ground from it to the DC ground or your existing JAMMA PSU.
This removes video noise/interference.

In one part you are right, but be careful, it only happens when you use a dimm with a SCSI/Ethernet port. when you use a Dimm with which it only has an Ethernet port, that problem of lack of power does not happen, since I realized that the SCSI port consumes a lot of energy in the 3.3v. I actually did the test and of course with SCSI/Ethernet port it didn't turn on my console, but with only Ethernet port if using Capcom JVS

And even if you play games like virtua fighter 4 using Capcom jvs the game freezes after 30min of use it has already happened to me on several occasions and the Capcom JVS in its 3.3v is at a high temperature

Sorry I've never seen a NetDIMM aside from what I have (assumed only one version existed, or at least other revisions would be silent/PCB only).

There’s two different Net DIMMs. One with a SCSI port, one without. I have one of each and they both NetBoot the same.

Exactly, there are also some that only have an Ethernet port, which is in my case I use it for less with energy consumption and that I can use with the Capcom JVS without problems.

Nice to know about the ability to use with Capcom IO. I will try NetBoot with my Ethernet only unit on the cab sometime.
