Naomi Cartridge Buffer Chips

Okay guys, so it says I'd have to wait till August for the top3000. But the XGecu T56 is on amazon here in the states so I can get it by Tuesday. So, guess I'll order that and give another update Tuesday night EDT. Thanks again!
 
Well, nothing good to report. The programmer showed up and the first 322 I tried that said blank threw up a write error. And after several attempts I decided that it must be a bad chip. Went to grab the next one and every one after that all said not empty. Tried another erase attempt and same thing, not empty. So, I decided to send this crappy uv eraser back to amazon and ordered a Spectroline UV Eraser. So, it will probably be early next week when it gets here so I'll be back then with another update.
 
i made my own,
i got the tube by ordering a uv sterilising lamp from china off ebay
it was actually cheaper to order a fitting and lamp together - but the fitting is too compact

put the tube in an older fitting and folded some aluminium to make a cover to hold the chips - then sprayed it matt black so it didnt reflect uv into the room
it's a 12inch tube and i can blank around 20 chips at a time - total cost about $5!!!
 
btw, try putting a chip on your window sill - i know in califoria back in the old days, people could erase eproms in a single afternoon by leaving them in the sun - says a lot about how much they lie about the UV levels!!

Yeah I thought about it, but with the amount of projects that I'm managing and whats on the back burner... just easier to order it. lol

Well, I finally got the new burner setup and chips erased and verified blank. I then burned file epr-23511c.ic22 and verified successfully. Tested and failed. So, I dumped the Capcom eprom and compared it to mine and they look like an identical match. Capcom on left and my file on the right.

Thoughts?

maybe they are too slow for the system.
(and maybe re-marked!)

i would be temped to erase and re-program an original chip

Well the reason I haven't chosen to do that yet is because the error on the board for the capcom one is coming from ic22, so either the original eprom has gone bad or there is an issue with the socket. I have some more 42 pin sockets on order.

Oh and with the new burner, if I try to burn the eproms at the spec for programming voltages it wont complete and errors out. If I raise them it finishes and verifies. Read on another forum that wrong voltages on the 322 will result in the chip passing but not writing the bits correctly. Ugh.

I just reread what you wrote about fotos of the new ones and I think you might be onto something. I took off the epr stickers of the original 18 wheeler and CapcomVsSNK and those chips have the same exact windows, chip color, and print. Obviously the "new" ones on the right, are completely different.

They are both 100ms and should function the same in circuit.

Just so I'm clear, does the cart exhibit the same fault with both chips or is the behavior different between the 2?

Same "error 1" error occurs after I burn new chips that appear to be an exact match. If I put the original chip back in they exhibit the same behavior from before. 18 Wheeler is a black screen and Capcom vs SNK will boot sometimes and sometimes not. Tried on different naomi systems as well same error for both carts. Also when running test ic22 is shown to be the issue. So I assumed socket or eprom. But I can't get a single eprom to work. So, maybe @stj is right, maybe my new chips have been relabeled...

I'm gonna wipe the 18 wheeler one as I really think it is related to the xilinx on that board and try burning capcom to it. And see if it works.
 
first thing i see - why is the new chip - and it is newer because it has a smaller die,
why does it have a bumpy almost painted appearance instead of smooth ceramic?

the datasheet says you program these at 6.25v - what are you using??

Yeah bios chips are fine even when bank switching them with the old burner. Bought them from a electronics company here in the states that's been around forever. I'm tempted to order some of the 322 ones from them if they have them. The ones Ive been using I got from some guy on the west coast. If the original 18 wheeler eprom I'm erasing now actually works, then I would assume I've been swindled with the other 322 chips.
