This may be the wrong place for this, but it is MVS adjacent. As if I dont already have too many projects, I've decided to see if I can build a Neo Print system. Thinking of building one into a small hard-case that can be taken to conventions and what not.

Tracked down most of the parts, including an original wiring harness to help me figure out how these were wired since I can't find any service manuals.

One thing I've noticed, is that the cartridges sometimes have a battery and calendar chip in them. What I'm wondering is if these are safe to replace, or if they're keeping anything alive à la Capcom suicide batteries. I doubt it, but I really don't know what these are for. Looking at the circuit, if I had to guess the UDP4990 is keeping track of date time and storing that in the flip flop chips? That seems weird.
