After I finally got my Forgotten Worlds control panel wired up, I was slightly offended that the joysticks connect neatly to their AMP/TE connectors behind the panel but the spinners have their own wiring loom that just dangles through to the PCB, and swapping control panels means either disconnecting the wiring from the CPS1 (multi) end, or removing the loom from the spinners.
I could just add an intermediate connector but there would still be nothing to stop the cable falling out of the back into the PCB area of the cabinet. Looking at the bracket that holds the connectors, there seemed enough space to the right to fit another one; 8 way would be enough to support both spinners or maybe a trackball of some description.
So that's what I've designed:
I actually reproduced the original bracket first before extending it, so if anyone happens to need one to complete a restoration or replace a rusted out one, I have that too:
I've sent off the extended design to get fabbed so assuming they're happy with it, I'll get that back in a week or two and assess the fit.
I would be curious to know if this could fit any of the other Sega JAMMA cabinets, I don't know how much part sharing goes on between them. If there's any demand, I would be happy to do a small run with or without the wiring loom(s) given I now have all of the crimp tools and connectors.
