Noir Monitor Swap

Just received my order, I'll be messaging those who pmd soon.

It’s taken me years to actually work on this and I tried the 3D printed mounts on here and they are just not strong enough. I tried this and seems really sturdy but haven’t really assembled it.

No issues with the ones I printed and my cabs have been moved around (even to a convention).

Recevied my Metal parts today. Thanks Jermz! I'll document the swap from 3D parts to Metal for anyone interested.

I upgraded my Noir with the LG 32GP750-B using the aluminum mounts. Huge shoutout to @jermz1 for the original design plus improvements. Also thank you to @notsonic for the removal steps and @PASTBLASTER for the video. It looks great but I struggled with it the first night when trying to have all 4 mounts loosely in place before dropping the monitor in. This is what I did in case it helps anyone else:
  1. Screwed the bottom mounts in loosely using longer M4's as seen in the video.
  2. Used 10mm thick spacers as recommended for the bottom mounts. jermz1 sent images and confirmed that the thickness is the most important. His width was 17.85mm and the inner hole was 8.43mm. The ones I found at the hardware store were slightly larger than that.
  3. Laid the screen down and centered it.
  4. Screwed the top mounts on loosely.
  5. Stood the monitor up slowly to let it slide down fully into the bottom brackets, centered it again, then tightened them all.

You read my mind I have the mounts and have been wondering if anyone had a successful monitor swap yet.

Thank you for posting!

I really want to do this with an OLED. Maybe I can look at the model you chose and compare to another to see if it would work for me.

Gracias

@Segafan1985 I was curious about the OLED size so I looked into it. I saw 3 of them within the LG UltraGear line and apparently they all have the same dimensions without the stand according to the AI overview (so research that more).

LG 32GP750-B: 28.1" W x 16.9" H x 2.0" D

OLED:
LG 32GX870A-B: 28.1" W x 16.2" H x 2.6" D
LG 32GX850A-B and LG ‎32GS95UE are the same

I would stick to the exact width as there didn't seem to be much wiggle room within the top brackets, but the others would be close. The difference of 0.7" H is 17.78mm, so you would need a larger spacer of course, but I'm not sure if the bolt size would be long enough to connect the L brackets. It might be if you used s thinner nut than the one included. For the difference in depth being 0.6", that also might be too big. Perhaps jermz could review and think about it but I would try to find one a bit closer to the specs that are known to work. Good luck!

It will help to watch the video posted earlier in the thread and read notsonic's steps to disassemble. I don't believe there is a video of actually installing it though, which is why I wrote out the steps that helped me.

For tools, I think it was just a screwdriver (JIS), wrench, and an allen wrench (hex key) set for the M4's that I had in the garage but whatever you need would be easy to find. The more fun part is when you run into snags like I did where a few were already stripped/damaged and I had to buy a left-handed drill bit set to drill them out and find a replacement. That's just part of the hobby though. =)

🤩👌🏼

This personal upgrade to a NOIR monitor uses a bare screen approach. It features LG LED panel, specifically the LM315WR5-SSA1, a 4K 60Hz IPS panel.

It's no casing, only the power supply and driver board.

Because there's no casing and the panel is very light, it's secured using a compression method (backplate springs) and metal pads.

The panel uses a default 24V DC power connector, and the NOIR frame has a built-in 24V power supply, so a custom power connector for the driver board is sufficient without an external power source.
