I've got some spare untested C boards and a working one, can I test those untested C boards on the multi or there will be the risk to break the multi?

The multi can surely be used to test a C-board by comparing behaviour with a known working one: if your setup works perfectly with a good C-board and then develops graphic glitches with an untested C-board then the latter is faulty.
I'd say the risk to damage the multi is slight unless the C-board has developed an internal short or something major like this.

I really hope this release is staggered from the Sega System 16B Multi. My wallet is going to have a hard time with the double-up!
