PGM single game PCB interest check

Thinking of putting together a 3 game set of these early in the new year once I have cleaned out a few projects. To make it economical I would need to order at least 10 of each pcb and more likely 20. Typically the cost difference between 3 and 20 pcbs is not much. Is anyone else still interested in blank pcbs or completed carts (I don't want to put together 50 but 5 or 10 I could probably do). If I was to do it, the price would have to include a thank you donation to @Fluffy per pcb/set and I would not look to order untill either there was 20 sets worth of interest or there was 10 sets and I was ready to build mine.
What is the price you are thinking? I don't need all three games, but I could use two of them!

To be perfectly honest I have not looked into it yet. I'll check what the boards cost in red mask, enig and bevelled finger and what the BOM rings up at. Plus a $5? donation to @Fluffy per set and a bit to put them together. I am thinking a blank pcb set should be about what the original ones were plus the donation and any inflation since then. Built carts I would need a bit more time on. Let me just say that the reason I won't put together 50 is because I am almost certain I won't be able to get all my time back so regardless they should be reasonably priced.

I would potentially be interested in 3 if they're compatible with the 3 desirable titles. ;)
The games I am wanting for myself are Espgaluda, Ketsui, and DoDonPachi Dai-Ou-Jou Black/White Label, and that is what I am assuming are the desirable titles. I was Planning on using the gerber files earlier in this thread without modification which I assume will be fine for those titles. However, I need to read all 33 pages of this thread (only read about 1/2 to date) as well as the associated how to build the cart thread before I start.

Ok I have done a little research and I could do a PCB set (1 x PROG and 1 x CHAR board) with red solder mask, ENIG and Bevelled Edge for the following prices:

US - $37.50 USD shipped 1 set or $75.00 USD shipped for 3 sets
Europe - $35 Euro shipped 1 set or $70 euro shipped for 3 sets.
UK - £35 shipped 1 set or £65.00 shipped for 3 sets
Australian Dollars - $45.00 Shipped for 1 set or $100.00 shipped for 3 sets

This includes a $5 donation per set to @Fluffy (I will need to check this with Fluffy and chase up his payment details). It would get a little cheaper if there were more than 20 interested and these are prices that I know I can do it for. This is pretty close to the price of the first batch offered. For the US and Australia I think it should work out a little cheaper than the first batch while it is likely a little more expensive for Europe and the UK (but the difference is in postage).

To give you an idea with green solder mask JLCPCB price on 5 of both boards is about $55.00 USD + shipping that goes up to $88.00 + shipping with red solder mask and does not include any donation to Fluffy. These prices would be $80 USD + shipping ($16 USD +Shipping per board set) in Green and $103 USD + Shipping ($20.50 USD + shipping per board set) in red with the $5 donation. Shipping to the US is $18, to Europe is £17 and to Australia is $10 AUD. So I think these prices are pretty fair.

For completed carts it depends on how professional you want them and what you want them to include. For mine I will be getting EPROM and spine stickers printed professionally (maybe metallic or holographic), some sort of cart shell (probably 3d printed and I am thinking metallic red) and maybe a game box. This will send the price up a bit. I think as a basic starting price you are looking at about $85-125 USD + shipping which should include the red PCBs, basic EPROM stickers (not fancy), a basic label sticker (again not fancy) and a 3d printed shell. The price probably also depends a bit on what game is installed.

I would try really hard to keep the price not too dissimilar to the new sheep nova carts. These are designed with SMD bits and are more easily produced in volume. The Fluffy carts are a bit more bespoke and in my opinion a little more reliable looking, however they lend themselves to more hand soldering. This is great if you are looking to build them for yourself, but not so good if you are producing them for someone else. Like I said I am happy to take a few of these on just for fun and to see how well I can get the end product looking, but I will set the limit pretty low as I am almost certain that these will become a bit tiresome to put together and will take a lot more time to build and program than what I can recoup via the sales price. I would also be looking to take a deposit on these if and when I decide to go to help cover the cost of parts, where as I am happy to cover the cost of PCB ordering and take payment just before I ship them out

beside these "desirable" titles (one of them is fixed by master @iq_132 in the next quote) , you or other builder can make other great titles too by using the Fluffy's cart
Hello,
I've de-protected a few PGM games and would like to keep a record of them as they may be help to future flash cart developers.
I will add them as I make them.

Oriental legend Super (olds103t in MAME) is already de-protected!
Ketsui has de-protected versions available.
Espgaluda has de-protected versions available.
Puzzli 2 / Super [some bugs] - added Sept 9, 2023 - removed for now
Oriental Legend [no bugs noticed, not well bug-tested] - added Sept 13, 2023
DoDonPachi III / DoDonPachi Dai-Ou-Jou [no bugs noticed, still crashes on Lidz carts, works ok on Fluffy?] - added Sept 13, 2023
Knights of Valour / Knights of Valour Plus [no bugs noticed, not extensively tested] - added Sept 14, 2023
Oriental Legend Super Plus [no bugs noticed, only played first few levels] - added Sept 15, 2023
Photo Y2K2 [no bugs noticed, devoted little play time] - added Sept 15, 2023
PGM 3-in-1 [no bugs noticed, devoted little play time] - added Sept 15, 2023
Dragon World II (no bugs noticed, some play time, tested on real hardware on a fluffy cart) - added Sept 27, 2023
Photo Y2K - added January 22, 2024.
Puzzle Star - added January 23, 2024 - Note-this is based on an incomplete protection sim from MAME, you may experience issues.

I paid : usd $82.90 for a set (5x Char + 5x Prg) - minimum was 5 each + of course the shipping (in my case was usd $19.94) + duties & taxes (was usd $19.54) with a grand total of = usd $122.38 (they was green mask , because was the cheapest . to have other colours the price will rise) . But i didnt checked what costs can be for a larger batch of these pcbs .

You don't need to make a donation to me. Find a worthy local charity and give them some money if you want to.

I recommend making a larger order. I usually ordered 100 of each, which amortises the fixed costs. Make sure you check your import rules so you don't slip into a band where you have more paperwork and higher import duties.

I'm probably in for 1 each of as many different finished stable bug free games as you can make with these if it drives the price down dependent of course on cost, which sounds reasonable thus far.
I haven't dipped into the pgm yet but want to which makes me the ideal candidate.

Happy to order as many PCBs as people want. I just wasn't sure interest would get to 100 boards after the gerbers have been released.

Good call. That may have only been for 5 PROG boards.
Nevertheless it gets significantly cheaper the more you order and those prices stand at a min of 20 sets untill it reaches more than 50 sets when it will drop a little. I was only checking what 5 cost for a comparison.

Import taxes and duties is a good call too. The quoted price dosen't cover that. Typically I have gotten away without worrying about them (commercial sample, gift and the like, which has also typically been true) but 5 plus sets of boards may raise a few eyebrows at customs. So please take that into consideration as each jurisdiction has their own rules and I am certainly not on top of them all.

I'm also down for a set of the three CAVE titles in carts. I want to play them and I could solder the ics but I dont know how to program eeproms.

@Big_P Big_p :

85-120 USD for a complete cart is a steal! - a couple of months ago i made a few carts for friends (~10 full sets) with 3D printed shells. MATERIAL costs (without labor costs!) were around 90 USD!

The main problem were those EEPROM chips. Bought a lot (since you need a lot) from aliexpress (had no other source available) and about 50-80% (bought in bulks) of those were in non working condition. (tried to get a refund but the sellers ignored my requests)

Just posting this that producing those carts take a lot of time and making you aware of the eeprom issues i had.

For the games with a switch i altered the 3D files which were posted in these forums

Please don't compare the carts you can create from Fluffy's PCBs from Sheep Novas. Different level :)

If you need any information feel free to PM me

Thanks for that. I hadn't really done a full in depth dive into the costs but had said that I would try to keep it to as close to a sheep nova cart as possible. This was because i expected most people to want just boards. It did look like it may be possible on a quick look as i didnt ever really expect to make my time back and thats why i was limiting the number. You may be right however that it may be not possible if there are eprom issues. So thanks for the heads up.

I know there are a few interested in full carts (probably more than I was expecting) so I will try to actually finalise a firm price in the next week or so on completed carts to give everyone a better idea.

I had to update a bit of equipment to be able to actually fit the EPROMS in my writer, which should arrive soon. So once that's in I'll have a better look at some of the suppliers and costs. I haven't really even printed a cart shell to see how much filiment it takes. Like I originally said looking to start ordering early in the new year.

Some eprom burners have bigger problems than others with 27C322s. So eproms that fail on one writer might write perfectly fine on another, so don‘t throw them out if they fail.

eproms that fail on one writer might write perfectly fine on another
I had a pile of "bad" EPROMs that my GQ4x4 wouldn't write to... when I got my Top 3000 I retried using them and about half I was able to program successfully. Later when I got rid of that for an EETools Programmer the other half that nether the GQ or the Top would write to worked fine on the EETools programmer. I've since replaced the EETools with an Xeltek and never had a failed ROM program on either device..

that EETools programmer was blazing fast for 322s also... like less than half the time compared to the GQ. Xeltek isn't quite as fast as the EEtools but still quicker than the other cheap programmers.

I was using a Wellon VP598 for the 27C322s - Are there known problem with that combination

My order had eproms with missing, rusted or dirty pins. Some eproms showed disconnected pins within the writers software, some had mismatches on reading. Overall my chips were dirty. I think not everything can be blamed on the reader/writer :D

@twistedsymphony : which Xeltek did you get?
