So first and foremost the main problem is the electrolytic capacitors go bad. There are several revisions of the motherboard but this is what I got for my Rev. E from Need For Speed Underground. The top two rows are in my experience the ones that always go bad. If the game runs but eventually crashes or goes to black screens, look and see if these are bulging. They are located around the CPU. The Height and Diameter sizes might not be exact, they are my caliper readings. The lead spacing is rounded to make sense with what's available on the market.
Another common issue is you turn on the machine and the cabinet lights come on the but the computer doesn't do anything. If you press the button on the front of the PC case and it turns on, you likely have a dead CMOS saving battery. CR2032.
I have seen that there are multiple versions of the BIOS and in the manual's set up instructions it does not tell you to turn off the full screen logo display on boot and disable S.M.A.R.T. settings. Even after you do load optimize defaults it will be different depending on your motherboard revision, so double check.
Also, make sure to set the date/time in the bios settings correctly before getting the game going. When you go into the collection and audits settings for the game it's all based on dates/times that are on the bios clock. There's no way to adjust the date/time in game test menu that I can see. You won't be able to set it later without a keyboard attached.
The system recovery and game install discs are in MAME and you can extract the chd to burn to disc. GlobalVR is still around and I recommend paying them for the recovery discs that you need. We still need them to be around to provide support in the future and this is a good way to give them a sale they profit a lot on.
Yes I am aware you can use other rebuilt computers and install your own video card drivers etc... This is for people who want to keep the stock stuff working if possible. Anyways, I hope this helps someone. Feel free to leave more knowledge in replies!
