What's new
I was able to get my hands on one of the 161 v3 carts before all of this went down, I recently bought an MVS from timeharvest last month. Would I still be able to flash my cart using the instructions from the posts from the last few pages? Or would someone provide a service like that?

Not going to work for you. You need 2 V3's to make 1 cart.

V3 doesn't have enough memory to hold all the games (that's why they have all the fake "+" games - make you think you got more games than you really do) The magic of what was done here is add more flash memory to the cart so you can hold all the Neo Geo games on it. You find that extra flash memory chip on the 2nd V3 that gets sacrificed. You didn't buy enough carts. :(

You could possibly source the chips separately though? Aliexpress tend to sell a lot of such electronics too

I wish that was true. Unfortunately, these chips were custom made for specific pachislots machines and are not off the shelf components. All V3 161-in-1 carts are made using these bespoke flash memory chips that were recycled with no existing datasheets or supplies. Now that they ran out of these chips, these multicarts are no longer on ali.

So both your replies kind of contradict each other’s :x but either way it doesn’t seem like a simple thing to source :/

I *think* rewrite's version is a bit different, but don't quote me. I could be talking out of my ass, which is very very likely.

Thats what rewrite did for his batch order … but as far as I remember he bought nearly all the stock
He did not buy it from Ali. He found the supplier that sold it to the cart makers (my guess) But based on his posts, the memory he got was not to the same quality as what you get from the V3 carts - the flash memory had visible issues (rust? chips & dents?) were they rejects from V3's? Who knows. And even if you find a stack of this flash memory, you still need the actual cases, PCBs, FPGAs, etc that make up a V3 cart and that's not made/sold at this time.

Well knowing China there will be more carts made someday, they love the Neo Geo. Till then I have the CD to play games not on the 161 cart.

I've made up an AES cart (no new menu), games run great, but music is awful. Some sfx are correct, sometimes you get the bassline in music, but mostly sounds like electronic noise. Neo boot sound is fine. Soldering's been triple checked, M rom beeps out, V roms beep out. Every rom CRC checked fine.

Is this a CPLD issue? Quartus has some clock errors, but no one else has mentioned them so I'm assuming they're fine, but I have attached the log here if it helps.

Congratulations on getting this mod working successfully!

In the Vortex github there is also a fix for the voltage regulator, designed to help fix sound issues. If you haven’t already might be worth checking out

Thanks! Mostly there lol

Adding PROG_CP1 Quartus log if it helps as well as a video of the distortion

While not being able to store the entire library on one cart is a disadvantage, surely there is still huge gains to be made by just being able to re-flash a single carts worth of memory with the games you want, for those of us who already own one? I can certainly live without 50 horse racing, mahjong and quiz games. I'm guessing the process is simpler if you're not having to transplant more memory too?

Yes you're probably right, but I'm sure there must be a happy medium somewhere of quality vs quantity.

That would be nice but i fear that the named ones plus the other must haves like the later Metal Slugs would eat up the available space rather fast.

In all honesty I'm really hoping the Chinese just start manufacturing the true "All in one Card" and all the "struggle" right now will be ultimately totally unnecessary
