Sega Model2/3 - JAMMA Adapter Thread

These boards are POWER HUNGRY and getting this adapter doesn't guaranty that the board will have enough power to work in your cab
Yeah I can confirm Deka 2 will absolutely not boot in my Astro City with a (recapped) stock power supply. These boards need a lot of power.

I bought this Jamma + ATX adapter from YAJ, so I can test if my Model 2 board works correctly.

Now that I know it works fine, I will start making a harness to power it from the 15A JVS PSU I bought a few weeks ago. And then convert that board!

Lol, that's the one listed in the first post of this thread. Glad it works for you, I hope the proxy+shipping wasn't too bad.

I actually dabbled in making an 24-pin ATX cable for @AkedoJune with good results:

You should test the voltage at the board as not every ATX will produce the 5v proper and it may "starve" the chips on the model2 board.

The 2nd adapter is sold to @SailorLodestar! Here are some pics before I installed it in an amazing looking Blast City cab personally!

We ended up deciding to use a 400-5306-01 for the power, so I made an adapter and fuse-box with switch for it!

As an update, I've found an amplifier on Aliexpress which shockingly uses similar components with a different IC. If I can reverse engineer it, I can make a new adapter that is significantly cheaper because all parts will be sourced for about $3 as opposed to about $20 just for the amp.

So far this adapter has been working great. And it looks amazing on the auto synch monitor of the Blast City we put it in. I wanted @biggestsonicfan to make a jamma adapter that would allow the Model 2 to get power from a dedicated PSU so the game could be moved into any cabinet.

I also briefly borrowed the RCA connector part from this wire set to play my Gunblade NY cab (also Model 2) with the RCA connectors feeding into a headphone amp.

It’s great work and I would recommend working with @biggestsonicfan to anyone looking for similar solutions.

Just curious if there's still work on these. Been thinking about my Dynamite Cop board a lot lately and it'd be nice to use it on JAMMA.

I'm after some advice in the best way to run a few model 2 boards in my USA VF2 cabinet, and maybe 1 model 1 as well but this is only a nice to have. I have some thoughts but would be good to get it sanity checked!

The cabinet is completely stock, with original power supply and full model 2A wiring.

I've got the following boards:
VF2 (Model 2A)
DOA (Model 2B)
Dynamite Cop (Model 2C)
Fighting Vipers (Model 2B)
VF1 (Model 1)

I'm ideally wanting to use Riddled TV EZ 4 way (or 8 way) switchers, which are obviously jamma.

I don't want to hack any wiring, so want a plug and play type solution.

The suggestion from riddledtv was to do the following:

1. Use 1 x EZ "anything" adapter. Make adapters for the cabinet wiring to plug in to, and solder the ends to this adapter for respective wiring. The power/ribbon cables from this then connect to an EZ 4 or 8 way switcher and turn the cabinet in to jamma.

2. Make 4-5 adapters for Model1/2 game boards using the same EZ anything adapter, and have each using the correct connectors for respective game boards. Power/Ribbon cable go from EZ 4/8 way switch to each remote board.

3. Audio wise, each game board sends the 4 channels over the ribbon cable back to the EZ 4/8 way switcher, and the usual speaker wiring to the amp gets plugged in to the EZ 4/8 way switcher on the respective header. This would allow the usage of the single factory amp, and retain volume control...etc.

Anyone see any callouts/concerns with this method?

Thanks!

You should be fine.
I am doing the same thing so hopefully it works.
