What's new
First off thank you @Murray for all the work putting this information/package together.

So when adding (your) new file names/BINs to "gamelist.py" file I found you are missing three (I feel important) BINs.
I have tried to copy this new naming convention with the following...
  • n1-power_stone_2-unlock.bin
  • n1-capcom_vs_snk_millenium_fight_2000-unlock.bin
  • n1-capcom_vs_snk_2-jvs-[GDL-0008].bin
Names should say it all, but character/item unlocked versions and the JVS requirement removal patch (I believe all were documented by @MetalliC in the original thread).
Only AW and N1 games updated (I don't own a N2) ;)

JVS patch removes/kills this BS...

Code:

JVS patch removes/kills this BS...
ShyDNNx.jpg
I am unaware of such a patch, do you have a link to the thread? Capcom games require an IO board that reports 2 coin slots to run. Some have dipsw settings (like dipsw4 on the windy 2 IO) that makes it report the correct number of slots.

Ask @MetalliC if he would post the offsets/values again.
I know the OG thread is around here some place but I haven't been able to locate it.

The BIN I provided already has the patch applied, so worse comes to worse compare it (WinHEX) with an unpatched BIN (GDL0008) to find the offsets/values.

Yea man, the Taito JVS IO won't work with unpatched CvS2 and ZERO reason for this to be the case.
ALL the buttons are supported (but misreported by the IO it seems).

sorry, I barely remember. I'm not use these patches, nor collecting them, just usually developing them by some friends request. then share the patch, then delete it and forget about it :D so, make sure to have a copy if you found them useful.

if my memory no fool me, it is patch to make game boot with some buggy (Konami's?) JVS IO, which reports too few buttons supported by board, while actually supports more
it's the Taito JVS IO typically found in Vewlix Cabs. the IO board claims that it only supports 5-buttons per player despite the fact that it actually supports 6. The Game will refuse to boot unless it's attached to a compatible JVS IO board (eg: one that reports supporting 6-buttons per player).

Technically there's nothing wrong with the game, but the patch removes the IO check to make it work with the broken IO board.

@mathieulh I found it! :D

CvS2 JVS Patch
Code:
offset new_value old_value
00001AAA: 0B 0C
00001AD4: 0B 0C
00001B10: 0B 0C
sorry, I barely remember. I'm not use these patches
I understand, but this maybe the greatest patch ever made (my view is skewed because I simply love CvS2/best Capcom crossover game EVER).

Any ideas on how many of these machines they made?

Read through this entire thing. I'm aware that I'm the only person on the arcade planet that gives a shit about horse racing games..but is the info in this thread suggesting that any and all horse racing arcade games aren't compatible at all with a netboot setup? Or is the topic of horse racing arcade games too uninteresting for them to be looked at/tested the way we would other games? I'd love to get a setup on a NNC and have access to a horse racing game or two...as ridiculous as that sounds..lol..any progress on those at all by anyone?

Having only seen them in person but not operated them, I don't know the minimum number of terminals to operate. Derby owners club can have a very large number of players iirc. You're going to need several NAOMIs, a sense of adventure, and a fair amount of time :P

I would start in MAME source, perhaps some hints there (just generic advice)

And you lost me at "several NAOMIs." *sigh*

I did a little research and see that bit about terminals. Probably severely limits options. Shame too because I'd genuinely be geeking out playing a horse racing arcade game with my father.

IIRC most (if not all) of the derby owners club games are in cart. Cart games take extra effort to make net bootable, so the effort isn't usually made unless its a game that can be played on a normal joystick and buttons control panel or there is a lot of interest in it. So I suspect that's why it hasn't been done.

honestly though, those carts are cheaper than a net dimm so id recommend just sourcing the carts.

So, in practice, if I owned a Naomi 2 Netdimm setup and wanted to play a horse racing game, I could just buy the physical hardware for the game itself and swap out the netdimm for the cart and play that game independently?

if you had a NAOMI2 net dimm setup and wanted to play a cart game you would remove the net dimm and install the cart. As for whether or not Derby Club will run without additional hardware; I can't say.

The owners manual for Derby Owners Club shows a main unit and 8 satellites totalling 9 Naomis (pg 42). The manual is 108 pages (!). I have seen this full setup in person, it is absolutely massive. You would also probably need card readers or further work on the card reader emulator project used for Initial D 3.

It seems in the case of horse racing games being playable on solo cabs, "Netdimm setups didn't screw Derby Owners Club. Derby Owners Club screwed Derby Owners Club."

Got a rom board of Derby Owners Club World Edition if you are interested. No shell, because... well that's why I bought a copy of Derby Owners Club World Edition.. :whistling:
Oh and you should definitely embark on this adventure

only 2 Naomi is not enough, you'll need at least 4 regular Naomi 1/2, plus one more 2x-PCB multi-board main unit, all of them should have comm.boards and should be connected via optical network. each of 4 regular Naomis also should have card reader. only in this case game will work.

so, very complex setup required to play fairly specific "game", that's why they're not popular at all.

PS: and that's even not most complex Naomi game, "Star Horse" games series require even more complicated setup.
